During the campaign for the commune election, we are reporting words heard at a street corner, in a market, from a seller, etc… discussing about the election. The words we are echoing here represent only the opinions of their respective authors.

“I pity Prince Ranariddh who was betrayed by members of his party led by Nhiek Bun Chhay, and to whom the municipal court blindly condemned to jail sentence. I must give him my voice to encourage him [to stay] in politics,” a woman in Tuol Tompoung explained. She was wearing a Norodom Ranariddh Party T-shirt, and distributing leaflets.

A student from the Build Bright University gave his opinion on Prince Thomico’s Sangkum Jatiniyum Front Party to his peers: “Even though the prince gathered several small parties around him, he did not organize any large meetings, unlike Prince Ranariddh’s party.” One of his peers noted that Prince Thomico “did not work hard for this commune election.” “I think he plans to merge with the Norodom Ranariddh Party after the election,” he said.

On the wave of the Women station (FM 102), a woman listener tried to convince other listeners to vote for the CPP: “If the commune councils were to be in the hands of the CPP, they will be able to obtain anything they want because the government is on the same side [as these would-be-CPP commune councils]. In case of problems, they (CPP commune councils) could refer to high-ranking party officials directly, whereas for the other parties, they would have to start their work from scratch. So, under these conditions, how could they (other political parties) really develop the commune …?” the woman argued.
