A woman who was the CPP group leader in the Taloas commune, Maung Russei district, Battambang province, was shot at her home by unidentified assailants at 11:00 PM on 21 March 2007. Rasmei Kampuchea reported that the woman who was shot dead is 56-year-old Chhum San. She was the CPP group leader in the Taloas commune. She was shot with an AK-47 assault rifle by unidentified assailants. She died on the spot at her home in the Ma Noak village. Her husband was injured in the left leg, while the couple children were able to flee the house. Bakan district police initially assume that the murder of the CPP activists is premeditated by someone who holds a personal grudge against them. The police is now busy searching for the killers to bring them to justice.
Note: According to Voice of America, the couple in the above story belongs to the opposition SRP party. Rasmei Kampuchea claims that the couple belongs to the CPP instead. The Cambodia Daily reported that the couple used to support the CPP but had recently switched to the SRP, and that one of their daughters participated at a SRP rally where Sam Rainsy was present in the morning of the day of the incident.
