Ranariddh's Absence Not Affecting Election, US Says

The absence of its nominal leader is unlikely to affect the Norodom Ranariddh Party during the campaign, US officials told VOA Tuesday.

Prince Norodom Ranariddh is not in the country and has been sentenced in absentia to 18 months in jail on charges related to embezzlement.

Ousted from government coalition partner Funcinpec, Ranariddh formed his self-named party but has not been involved in its day-to-day operations. Ranariddh has said his sentencing was unjust and that the the ruling Cambodian People's Party controls the courts.

Jeff Daigle, a US Embassy spokesman, told VOA Tuesday the court ruling had come suspiciously quickly, but that the prince's absence would do little to affect the upcoming commune elections.

Agree, No effect to Election Campaign... because If preah Ang Mchas joins campaign, NRP poularity may reduce due to his urgly face is revealed..
If some one is so weak and can not compete with others in term of Power(e.g PM Hun Sen..} that one should clean his face well, .. that will make people satisfy with him..please do anything to the Public/People Interest.. But Preah Ang is so busy with his own personal Business/family/lady Adultry.. issue.. fighting each other within his own Party Funcinpec...NRP ...
How can you gain support from people if you are such Dirty...
Moreover, we can say that this isuue partly caused by others side(PM Hun Sen CPP) but logically if he is good.. NO ONE can touch him...SO THIS IS HIS OWN STORY... Do not blame anyone Preah Ang Euy !!!!

Acha Knoy
