Hun Sen’s declaration to lead a war against land-grabbers – who are mainly government officials within the CPP – is nothing more than an election campaign war cry rather than a resolution for land disputes, so said rights groups and the opposition party leader. Sam Rainsy said that Hun Sen’s declaration was only made to attract voters in anticipation of the upcoming commune election. Sam Rainsy is challenging the government to reveal the wealth and the names of those officials involved in the theft of state lands. Hang Puthea, Nicfec director, told the Cambodia Daily that Hun Sen’s war cry was made for nothing more than to garnish votes during the upcoming 01 April commune election. Yeng Virak, CLEC NGO director, welcomes Hun Sen’s speech, but said that people need action rather than just talk. Yeng Virak said that we want his promise to turn into reality.
