A Sam Rainsy Party official said Thursday residents displaced by recent development in Phnom Penh will gather to demonstrate in front of City Hall Friday, while members of the Norodom Ranariddh party said they had set a date to protest the municipal court.
Displaced residents want municipal authorities to disclose development plans that have pushed 4,000 families out of their homes around Beng Kak Lake in the capital, SRP parliamentarian Son Chhay said.
They will hold a sit-in demonstration that will continue until the city's leaders agree to see them, he said.
"It is important to see the government being accountable for its action," he said. "This is a way to remind local officials to accept parliamentarians' roles and to cooperate on their country's problems as common affairs."
Not every displaced person would demonstrate, he said, but representatives would be there of their own volition.
An increasing number of being are being displaced, separated from running water, schools and other basic necessities, as Cambodia develops. Phnom Penh has seen a high number of displacements in recent years.
As Son Chhay was readying for his demonstration, members of the Norodom Ranariddh Party said they had set a date for a demonstration at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court.
The court is scheduled to hold a case against the party's president, Prince Norodom Ranariddh, on March 13 in charges stemming from the sale of the headquarters of his old party, Funcinpec.
Party spokesman Muth Chantha said the party plans to hold a demonstration on March 14.
Party members from 24 cities and provinces, meanwhile, have signed a petition asking the prince, who is not in the country, to stay away from the proceedings, party secretary-general Nhek Bun Chhay said.
Officials from Phnom Penh and the Ministry of Interior did not respond to requests for interviews.

There is no other option to have these city officials listening to the potential victims of Beng Kak. Even Son Chhay still does not know what to do beside leading a sit-in demonstration to have these thugs listen to the poor. This is how cheap our poor people are from Ah Sen's view point. This is how Ah Khvak look down on Khmer. His thugs threatens to kick them out of their home and dump them like they did to the residents of Sombok Chab again.
Where is justice? It is in the pocket of the rich and the powerful corrupted ones. This is how this Vietnamese puppet-government runs, my friends. No surprise. They do not see the sufferings of the poor but only the money and power. Like I said before this is not the government for the people this is the govrnment to kill and displace the peole. This not the government of the Khmer but it is of Ah Youn Communist. This not the government by the people but the government of cheating and bribing people to vote for them. Poor Khmer, Ah Khvak and his thugs torture them everyday. Down Ah SEE PEE PEE! Long Live Khmer! Thank you SRP for trying to help our poor innocent citizens.
One thing about idiot SON CHHAY is that he still believe in current khmer's court system. May DOGS attack them during the demonstration...

We try our best to do political Business some of us from abroad inwhich is difficult for us to earn money we came here/Cambodia to earn money from politics business as some of us are royal family we must be richer.. we are impossible to drive taxi and or cyclo like ordinary citizen, we always in politics, to do politics to earn money while becoming high Rank official=being Rich we gain also ladies(whores)in oversea it is more difficult to find lady ..here easier we just spend some USD...
SO THAT IF WE GAIN POWER WE WILL GRAB LAND TOO by peaceful/or violent ways but planned to be more peaceful than CCP does and has done now... and we will get too many ladies... including daughters or wives of our paty members/ subordiates we try to do the same as OUR BOSS PREAH ANG MCHAS RANARITH.. as much as poosible or if possible...
We try our best to return to Cambodia OR some of us (Local Cambodian) try to run from one party to another/ try to pay more money for Post/position from Office Chief to Ministers and higher we sold our property to collect money to spent to our Bosss(Prah Ang Mchas...and others)we sacrifice OUR YOUNG DAUGTER For Preah Ang.. We sacrificed our Beloved Wife for Preah Ang Mchas to enjoy with them..SO WHILE GAINING POWER LIKE PM HUN SEN & HIS PARTY MEMBERS WE will DO THE SAME THING THIS IS OUR MAIN GOAL..
