Thunder storm kills 4, destroys hundreds of homes in Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, March 20 (Xinhua) -- A thunder storm hit two western provinces of Cambodia near the Thailand border, killing four people and destroying hundreds of homes, officials said on Tuesday.

The storm destroyed many trees and the thunder strike killed three women separately on Sunday, including one in a rice paddy field, Touch Sonana, Governor of Banan district in Battambang province.

"Cambodia has just been hit by a rare rain in this season," the governor said, adding that the storm was so strong and cruel this year.

Meanwhile, Seng Hor, Deputy Police Chief of Battambang province,told Xinhua that the thunder storm destroyed hundreds of homes in his province.

Additionally, the Banteay Mean Chey province next to Battambang province was also hit by the thunder storm.

Chong Phet, Governor of Preah Netr Preah district in Banteay Mean Chey province, said the thunder storm killed a man in his district on Saturday, while 13 homes were flattened by strong winds.
