The ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) is expected to score a landslide victory in next year's general election as it just won the majority votes in the local election, said Prime Minister Hun Sen in Phnom Penh on Tuesday.
CPP received 3.1 million votes out of 5.1 million that were cast during Sunday's balloting to choose leaders for the commune councils and it was "an unprecedentedly overwhelming number of votes from our people," he said at an economic forum.
After the polling, CPP continues to control 98 percent of the kingdom's 1,621 communes and urban sub-districts known as sangkats, he quoted unofficial statistics as saying.
According to Sunday's polling results, CPP is expected to win 90 seats in the 123-seat National Assembly, or the country's lower house of parliament, he added.
Official results of the polling will be declared on April 24.
Altogether 102,266 candidates from 12 political parties competed for 11,353 seats in 1,621 councils in the second ever commune councils election since the Kingdom of Cambodia was established in 1993. Its results lay the groundwork for the general election in 2008, which will elect the fourth government of the country.

Many of The Sam Rainsey's voters were screwed of their idenities or else were made it very difficult to get to the polls. They were blocked in any way possible to slow down their true joourney, to delay the process or to get their ballots REGISTERED. That is the real cry of us Khmers!!!!

It's not surprise, and it happened in others country too especially when you lost. The losers often complaint about irregularities,cheats, intimidations etc....The question is the losers are too coward to stand up against the party in charge.
