Increased traffic accidents during the Khmer New year

Report indicated that during the three days of the Khmer New Year, the number of traffic accidents has increased as tens of thousands of people are traveling out of Phnom Penh to head to the provinces for holidays. RFA indicated that on the first day of the New Year celebration, an accident took place in Phnom Santuk, Kompong Thom province, causing 8 deaths. The accident occurred when a Nissan car traveling from Siem reap hit another truck from Phnom Penh, in front of the police station. One family of eight perished, and 2 other persons were injured, one of the two died at the hospital. During the second day of the New Year, an accident between two motorcycles took place in Kompong Cham causing one death and two injured. In Kien Svay, Kandal province, an accident took the life of one person while injuring many. In Phnom Penh, 9 accidents took place causing one death and 16 injured.
