At least 6 monks were injured during a repression by the Phnom Penh police on Friday when about 60 [Khmer Krom] monks gathered to demand from the Vietnamese authority the release of three jailed [Khmer Krom] monks and to demand the respect of Khmer Krom people rights.

20-year-old Monk Chan Vanda who was injured and had his hand swollen, said that the police force used brutality against the monks who are blameless. “They are ruthless, come to think of it, [the country’s motto is:] Nation, Religion, King, and even the King respect the monks, but the police dare beat up the monks, they inflict pains on the monks, they are very brutal.”

According to Monk Yoeung Sin, the director of Khmer Krom monks, all the monks who participated in the demonstration came from all the pagodas in Phnom Penh city and from the provinces.

The monks who demonstrated sat in to recite prayers in front of the Vietnamese embassy in Cambodia, and they also sat and prayed in front of the Royal Palace and the US embassy in Phnom Penh. But no one seems to care much about the violence perpetrated by the police force against the Khmer Krom monks who were holding a banner reading: “Bravo! The united forces of Khmer Krom [people].”

30-year-old Monk Thach Sinem said: “I see that the Cambodian police are being pressured from their higher ups, that is why when I went to demand for the freedom rights in Kampuchea Krom, the police forces in the pagoda did not authorize me to go, they chased after me.”

Another anonymous monk added: “Khmer Krom people are hurt by the Vietnamese government oppression on Khmer Krom monks and Khmer Krom Buddhists. The Vietnamese government does not respect our human rights at all, they are trampling on the UN Charter.”

The sit-in of Khmer Krom monks lasted one entire morning.

Touch Naroth, the Phnom Penh police commissioner, declined to comment on the police brutality on Khmer Krom monks during this demonstration.

Chan Saveth, a representative of the Human Rights Committee, expressed his regret on the use of violence by the police against monks who just wanted to defend the rights of Khmer Krom people only.

Bravo United Kampuchea Krom. We have to persevere for our rights. Non-violence and the way of Buddha will be our path. To suffer here and make sacrifice for humanity.

Keep going no matter what, like Gandhi, King, and moral peace loving people, we will continue to suffer our own sacrifices for own people. The more force and violence we allow the to inflict on us publicly, the easy for us to show the international public what is hidden beneath, which is worst.

We will stand against oppression. Non-violence, and peace. Jeyo Kampuchea Krom!

Who dare to attack Khmer Buddhist monk, either they are from mainland Kampuchea or from Kampuchea Krom? Not real khmer people even among the police forces. You must know that Vietnamese agents have infiltrated our police and armed forces since the time of vietnamese occupation. You can see in Phnom Penh that most of the police officers wearing normal or anti riot uniform and gun speak vietnamese when they got their daily pho breakfast in restaurant...you must know that vietnamese agents have infiltrated the pagodas and monks in Cambodia as imaged by the 6 monks who came to provok the pacific demonstartion.
Cambodia has around 14 000 000. Among this number how many millions of vietnamese? Some estimate minimum of 5 000 000. I would rather say 8 000 000. This is the only way to new colonization and it will work at long term if we don't move our ass.
To those who doubt: this is not paranioa, this is the real truth. All the patriots warriors and leader were assinated during the battle of Pailin and finished at the July 97 coup. All the only capable real khmers leaders from the Son San army assassinated. Now who stay to protect the khmer people from vietnamisation? Before we had the khmer rouge and Son San's Army to prevent that. Now no more...What is the hope? Do we have any choice? Slow vietnamisation would be better than khmer fighting each other , so that peace will finally arrive to Cambodia once absorbed by another country? What Khmer overseas can do for that execpt cry on their own misery or just bla bla without action? We can not count on the Monarchy, vietnamised since the fall of Angkor Wat. We can not count on our actual government who is selling the remaining land of Kampuchea to foreign country and who are themselves khmer rouge vietnamized. Who will be our nation savior? our new Jayavarman to save the khmer nation? What is the better choice? A new fight to preserve the independance of our country or the slow vietnamisation which means a stability at middle term?

I didn't see any of these motherfuckers standing strong and tough when the Vietcong and the Thaicong crossed Cambodian borders and forced dirt poor Cambodian farmers of their land and make way for more of their settlers. Do you see what I mean!

These motherfuckers are an instrutment of the Vietcong and the Thaicong with the intention to harm Cambodia civilian. One of these day they will have their wish!
