Kem Sokha in US for support

Human Rights Party Leader in US for Support

Sok Khemara, VOA Khmer
Original report from Washington
08/05/2007

Kem Sokha, the outspoken rights advocate and head of the newly minted Human Rights Party, is on a short tour of the US .

Kem Sokha planned to travel to the states of California, Minnesota and Washington, among others, meeting Cambodians and congressmen to build support for the party, he told VOA Khmer from Philadelphia, Pa.

He began the party following the commune council elections in April, aiming to take seats in the National Assembly after the 2008 national elections.

Kem Sokha was jailed last year for defamation. His incarceration sparked a groundswell of support and eventually led to the repeal of a controversial law.

Kem Sokha will be a guest on "Hello VOA" on May 14 before returning to Cambodia.

What the heck?? Another political party? Why don't he join Sam Rainsy or someone? Just because he worked for Human Rights he thinks people and the US will favor him more. What's wrong with Sam Rainsy? The politics in srok khmer now might be worst with another party.

It is time for Sam Rainsy to step
down and let Kem Sokha try to
defeat the CPP. Let's face fact:
Sam Rainsy doesn't have what it
takes to win the election or to
run the country. He should not
try to grip on to PM candidate for
the 2008's election.
