Opposition leader Sam Rainsy declared in Tuesday that his party will strongly oppose any plan to demolish a monument commemorating the victims of the 30 March 1997 grenade attack, located in a public park in front of the National Assembly. Sam Rainsy’s warning was made following a rumor indicating that the municipality of Phnom Penh plans to demolish the monument to make way for the construction of a new park, in order to improve the view in front of the National Assembly. Sam Rainsy told a group of reporters in front of the National Assembly that he will be willing to the demolition of this monument, if [the city] is willing to demolish the monument built to thank to the Vietnamese soldiers who died in Cambodia [during Vietnam’s invasion in the 80s], which is located nearby the monument for the victims of the grenade attack also. Kep Chuktema, the governor of Phnom Penh, could not be contacted regarding this issue.

There are two streams in Cambodia which Cambodian people will judge and the world community will see.
CPP is only serving communism stream in which this party is lying Cambodian people to reform for democracy but in practice, this party is firmly in grip of communism nature. CPP is associating with Communist Countries like Burma, China and Yuan..etc.
CPP is talking good of demmocracy but they are practising like Khmer Rouge such as eviction poor people from their original lands, protect gangsters to maintain culture of impunity and feed criminals....manipulate the national judiciary law..increasing poverty in order to gain absolute control.
Why inscrease poverty? Because they build schools without eqipements and adequate teachers' salary. They try to talk about danger of land grabbing, but encourage or at least not to arrest officials or business tycoons who have committed land grabbing...they talk about environment protect but encourage their people/agents to cut more trees for money....they are talking about pandemic corruption but corruption law has never adopted....especially and more dangerious, the CPP has never talked about the devastation of illegal immigrants Yuan...this is so serious for Cambodian future.
Now, they are trying to demolish democratic monument, but daren't talk about communism monument....the suggestion of Opposition Party Leader is scoring...

The article indicates that Mr. Sam Rainsey is opposed to any attempt to dismantle the monument that was erected to honor victims of the grende attack. It further indicated that a compromise can be reached if those suggesting or flooding this idea of the removal of this monument are willing to dismantle the one erected as a tribute to the Vietnamese fighters who died in Cambodia.
Regardless of Mr. Sam Rainsey role in Cambodia (minority or opposition position), this chess move of his is unique. Given a fair playing field devoid of force, one would be hard press...indeed to counter this move....
Vietnamese intervention in Cambodia to overthrow the KR from power on 7 january 1979 was not HUMANITARIAN. The so-called Hun Sen's army or Khmer Slvation's Front's Army was inexistant or was only a little band accompanying the Viuetnamese Army.
The main aim of the Vietnamese intervention was to occupy and to annex Cambodia to form a Federation of Indiochina States, according to Ho Chi Minh's TESTAMENT.
But Vietnam could not swallow HUN SEN's People Republic of Cambodia, because of the resistance from the KR Army itself, Political struggle carried out by Norodom Sihanouk International pressure and collapse of Communist bloc. It was a big loss for Vietnam's dream.
So there's no need to be grateful to Vietnam and no need to build a statue for Vietnamese soldiers.
