The lawyer of Prince Norodom Charuchak said that the detention of the prince and the charge against him for illegal possession of weapon is a political issue aimed at the prince’s father, Prince Norodom Chakrapong. Lawyer Muong Akrun told The Cambodia Daily that his defendant believes that his detention is politically related. Muong Akrun quoted Prince Charuchak who told him in the Prey Sar jail on Tuesday, that they wanted to persecute his father (Prince Chakrapong). Muong Akrun said that his defendant claimed that the sword which the authority said was his, in reality belonged to one of the prince neighbors. Sao Meach, Phnom Penh municipality court Judge, denied that his decision to detain the son of Prince Chakrapong was politically motivated. Prince Thomico said that the detention of Prince Charuchak is not fair when compared to the case of a CPP official’s son who was involved in the shooting of three students in front of the new National Assembly building last week, and who is not charged by the court yet.
