Mr. Rong Chhun :

Rong Chhun is President of Cambodia’s independent teachers’ union, CITA. He has also just been elected to lead the newly formed Cambodian Confederation of Unions, bringing together the 80,000 members of CITA and the Free Trade Union. The new face of Cambodia’s union movement and one of the country’s most respected human rights defenders, his open criticism of the government recently earned him three months in prison. We spoke to him in Phnom Penh, soon after his release.

Mr. Chea, Mony :

The Fre Trade Union (FTU) was the first trade union to form in Cambodia in 1978. With a membership of 71,000, it mostly represents garments workers but enrolments are increasing from other sectors: hospital workers, market traders and plantation workers. Chea Mony’s brother, Chea Vichea, was the FTU’s first President. He was assassinated on 22nd January 2004.

Great!!! meet them as they are nice people.

Some facts--the memberships are exaggerated by pretty much 20 times. So if you divid the number by 20, you should get pretty close to the actual.

They are also members of the SRP's steering committee (a rubber stamp body of the SRP--SRP's doing exactly what they cried about others.

Overall, they are nice people--being used by SRP. CITA for example did not allow election and their donors walked out. If Rong Chhun and Chea Mony free themselves from the SRP, they would have gained more support, more true members, and influence for the cause of protection the labor in this country. Please advise them on these points too since they don't usually accept criticism or advice here.
