Thanh Nien News (Hanoi, Vietnam)
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health announced Monday the names of seven more city-based companies whose soy sauces have dangerous levels of 3-MCPD, a carcinogen.
They are the Tam Ky, Me Kong, Vinh Phuoc, Khuong Phat, Bach Thao, Miwon Vietnam, and Hau Sanh.
Earlier this month the health watchdog blacklisted 10 companies, fined them over VND100 million (US$6,250) in all, and took their products off the market.
The public is, however, outraged that the agency discovered many sauces containing the carcinogen back in 2001 but did not report it until recently, endangering their health.
Local media reported that in November 2001 the department found 15 samples in the city with carcinogen levels 23 to 5,600 times higher than permitted limits.
But at a press conference Saturday, Nguyen Duc An, chief health inspector, said the results had not been released until recently because there had been no regulations on 3-MCPD in the past. He also denied bribery allegations.
3-MCPD could cause cancer and affect fertility.

Some of these soy sauce brands that can cause cancer are also sold in Cambodia. I hope some newspapers in Cambodia will publish this news to warn purchasers and consumers in Cambodia.
Too late, the CPP top men have already swallowed it (because their trusted cooks are Viet)! We will see these corrupt officials taking turn to go to Vietnam for treatment in the coming months. Let's hope they never come back.
Of course, we must warn the Cambodian public not to consume Viet products until they are certified to International Standards (ISO). Even so, they can still put fake international certifications on their products.
This is a wake up call on all the the Thaicong and the Vietcong products! Please be careful of their food, drug, and cosmetic!
Cambodian stupid government should create a database of all the food, drug, and cosmetic additive which are dangerous to people! Well, Because stupid Cambodian government don't have the capability or the mean to identify which product is dangerous and therefore they should ask the outsider for help such United States or any advance country for help in these field! This is very important because it deal with the well being of all people not just for Cambodian people but those foreign tourists as well!
As far as I am concerned all the fucken Thaicong and the fucken Vietcong must declare all the ingredient on their food label so it is easy to trace all the chemical in the food, drug, and cosmetic whether it is safe to use or it is already outlaw by some country such as United States!
It is about time that stupid Cambodian government need to check with the importers on all the food, drug, and cosmetic before allow any product to enter Cambodia because no Cambodian people want to buy garbage!!!!
