The Cambodian authority claimed that the Vietnamese authority issued an order defending Cambodian companies from transporting sand by boat to sell in Singapore across the Mekong River portion in Vietnam.

The Cambodia Daily quoted Hay Bavy, the deputy-director of the Phnom Penh Port Authority, who said that the Vietnamese authority issued this order since 07 May 2007.

The Vietnamese authority stated in a letter dated 24 May that it issued this order preventing the transport of sand because this transport could affect the environment of the Mekong River.

Muong Sav Khorn, the secretary of state of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology said on Tuesday that Cambodia and Vietnam are both members of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and the two countries share the same international water pathway, therefore there should be some resolution to this issue.

Muon Sav Khorn said that Lim Kien Hor, the Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, and Cham Prasidh, the Ministry of Commerce, plan to meet with the Vietnamese government soon to negotiate this problem.

KI-Media note: Singapore and Malaysia decided to buy its construction sand from Cambodia and not from Vietnam, because the quality of the Vietnamese sand does not meet their requirements

Vietnam is a thief neighbor. It is the opportunits neighbor who steal whenever possible. Now where is the fucking one eye HUN SEN and his mafia government? Will you stand up for your country? Or are you the Viet right hand man to destroy Cambodia?

The cooperation has to be based on mutual interest. It is unacceptable that VN government prevent the transportation if we have money to pay them. We don't see the issues of VN government yet. But based on the document of RFA, it is just another measure of VN to test our capacity in dealing with them. I knew that there is a big company from Ho Chi Minh city to invest in Cambodia on sand. By this, VN will cut the legs of its own investors. What I am worried is they are extremely smart when they heard that Singapore need sand from Cambodia and they just come to Cambodia to invest on sand as sand in VN Singapore doen't want, it is not the standard.

But, ministers, I hope, will pursue with mutual interest cooperation and long sightedness.

Let's pass VN by our intelligence.

THE BAD THING IS VN DOESN'T ALLOW THE DELIVERY OF SAND VIA HER MEKONG TERRITORY. MAY BE SHE NEEDS TARRIFF COMMISSION.

THE GOOD THING IS VN UNINTENTIONALLY PREVENTS CAMBODIA FROM MAKING THE FURTHER ERROSION OF MEKONG RIVER BANK WHEN THE SAND IS GONE AND DECREASE NATURAL PROTECTION AGAINST POTENTIAL FLOOD DOWNSTREAM AT MEKONG DELTA AREA.

No mutual interest with a friend who is always taking advantage on the Khmer head. Remember? they build a dam on the Sreh Pork river in their territory, but the dam affected many populations in the khmer areas (flooded, disease, decrease in fish populations, etc.), but there were ban on any article issuing about the case, nor the Royal Government of Cambodia reacted to such a unlawful construction as according to the the GMS (Greater Mekong Sub region) treaty, such a construction requires consultation with Cambodia indeed. Did they consult? of course no, did the government reacts for Cambodia interests? of course...not so so sure about it.

The thing is, even the agriculture product in here is not competitive with VN products, the government never raise the tariffs against vn products to protect its agrarian workers. Hun Sen only mentioned: if we cant compete with them, let them win. Just buy the cheaper imported one from neighboring countries. Such an irresponsible government. LET THE VN PRODUCTS FRUITFUL AT THE EXPENSE OF CAMBODIA POOR FARMERS. if these businesses are fair, i would agree with, but the VN products enjoy much subisidies from their Vietcong communist government. I recalled one that even the u.s fisermen used to ask their governmetn to intervene coz they cant competed with teh subsidied fished imported from VN. How about such a poor country like cambodia?

I am angry when seeing such an unfair act.
