The National Election Committee said Friday it would review voter registration lists in an attempt to ensure the 2008 national elections are fair.
In a press conference Friday, NEC Director Im Suosdei said that after a "decisive" review of the commune council elections, some voter names are to be removed from local registration lists.
These names will be made public and undergo a complaint period.
"The NEC has prepared a campaign for registering the names of the voters," Im Suosdei said. "In it, special focus will be on the removal of names from the voter list, of those who died, those who moved. We have seen that after the April 1 election, the number of voters was small compared to the voter list. So we must prepare beforehand, before registration, and presently do the voter names list."
