(CBS) METHUEN, Mass. - A holdup man picked the wrong target Thursday night when he walked into a package store in Methuen, Mass.
"When I opened the door I see the guy stand right there, gun pointed at my daughter," said Vannarithros Ross, who had just returned to his family-run package store after running an errand.
"And my daughter told me in my language that we got robbed….He didn't know I was behind him, so just grabbed him real tight so by his reaction I'm afraid he gonna pull the trigger on my kid."
Ross says his son grabbed a bottle of fish sauce and hit the gunman on the head as Ross swung him to the floor. "My son, he just reacting. He keep hitting on the head until I told him, stop it because he was gonna kill the guy."
Ross says police came with two or three minutes. "That's very fast. Amazing. Very amazing."
Methuen police say an investigation has not determined any criminal acts on the family's part.
So how does Ross feel today? "Well, I still feel bad for the guy cause there's so much blood on the floor."
Ross considers himself lucky.
In his native Cambodia, he survived the Pol Pot Regime and the Khmer Rouge.
The gun the suspect flashed during the robbery turned out to be a BB gun but Ross and his family didn't know that. Police planned to charge the gunman with robbery when he gets out of the hospital.
A poetic post script to this story, Mr. Ross' name, in Cambodian, means survive. (KI-Media note: Mr. Ross' name should be spelled Ruos)
Police say the hold-up man had $400 to $500 in his pocket, taken from the store's cash register, but the family got it back.

Stupid guy ,mess up with the wrong people.
Thank for fish sauce 's jar.
Hey the robbery, You should not mess up with Cambodia people especially African/American. Remember we're not afraid of dying. We learned from Khmer Rouge era. At the time they killed us very easy because we don't have the strength to fight back. Now don't be stupid pointing the gun at us. Before you kill us, we need to take a step to fight back.
So Congratulation our brother. Fight them back and teach them a lesson.
Horray for Fish sauce.
Your life is your priority; not your money. You can earn money but you can't bright your life back. You should only fight back when a chance to fight back or only the risk is low or only if you think you would knock him down.
i hope the fish sauce were made in Cambodia.
That robber will never forget the smell of Khmer fish sauce...
Chayor Teuk Trei!!!
To those you think the my father in law did it for the money.. what would you do if the same thing happen to you. Walking in the middle of the robbery seeing a guy with a gun to your daughter? Walk back out or take the risk?
I just want to thank everyone for the concern.

Well done! A family bond that comes together in the hour of needs. A truly Khmer courage in the face of an immortal danger.
Wherever you live and whatever faith you believe in, don't forget our old tradition and those sacred Khmer amulets and yantras to keep us safe. As our saying goes: "magic incantation is a complement to life", Akum Phsorm Ayu! Of course, the sauce bottle also does help.
If we keep our guardian angels working full-time they will watch over us full-time, as long as we follow the right path.
I saw the news i been to that longer store in methuen...Well, i saw the robber on the news with a diaper on on head..lolz..Your're brother beat him up really bad..that's why he has to wear depend diaper on his head.
