Even thought the new traffic law requires that motorcycle drivers must have a driver license starting 01 September, until now, only 700 persons have come forward to take traffic lessons at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. Ung Chun Hor, director of the transport department of the Ministry of Public Works told The Cambodia Daily that people may believe that the police will not do anything to them that is why they do not care about taking traffic lessons. Keo Savin, director of the land transport traffic of the Ministry of Public Works said that starting 01 September, the police will put into application this new law. Tin Prasoeur, director of the office of land traffic police said that, soon, the police will start issuing fines to motorcycle drivers who do not have a driver license. Tin Prasoeur said that motorcycle drivers who do not have a driver license will be completely against this law.

How the thousant of million of people can get a permit in a short lap of time? Please use your small brain to think of.

Remember for the next step that walker along the street should get a walk permit ( Another possibility to richen and get more and more)

More nonesense from the powers-the-be. Like all the other so-called traffic laws this one will be ingnored and then forgotten within two weeks much the same way that the wing mirrors law was mostly ignored and now totally forgotten. There is no feasible way to enforce these laws and all road users know that they can pay a few reils to an under-paid and hence corrupt cop to have them turn a blind eye to any infraction of the law. It is riduculous that anyone actually thinks this is going to solve the ever increasing anarchy on Cambodia's roads. Address corruption, pay police a living wage, increase the traffic police force, punish law breakers through the law and not with arbritary fines and educate people about the law and the respect due to other road users is what is needed.
