Cambodia says Abe's resignation brings no impact to Cambodia

Wednesday September 12, 2007

(Kyodo) - The Cambodian government said Wednesday that Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's resignation will not hurt good relations between Cambodia and Japan.

"The relationship between Cambodia and Japan will not be changed, and nothing is worried about because it is an internal issue of Japan," said Khieu Kanharith, government spokesman and minister of information.

Abe announced his intention Wednesday to resign to take responsibility for causing political confusion, saying he finds it difficult to regain public trust and to get an extension of Japan's refueling mission in the Indian Ocean under his leadership.

Abe, who took office only a year ago, said it is better for him to step down and have a new prime minister.

Abe's decision to resign comes after indicating over the weekend he was ready to step down if he failed to get the Diet to extend the Maritime Self-Defense Force's refueling mission to support U.S.-led war efforts operations in and near Afghanistan beyond Nov. 1.

Cambodia's opposition leader Sam Rainsy said he sincerely appreciated Abe decision.

"I sincerely appreciate Shinzo Abe for his courage and braveness to resign for the interest of his name, his party and his nation," he said.

During a recent visit to Japan, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen had invited Abe to visit Cambodia this year to mark 50th years since the visit by Abe's grandfather Nobusuke Kishi, then prime minister, to the country.

"An invitation was raised verbally by Prime Minister Hun Sen during his visit to Japan in June this year. And in response, Abe said he would examine and consider an appropriate timing for making a visit to Cambodia," said Sry Thammrong, an adviser to Hun Sen who accompanied the premier to Japan.

Yes, it is truly the Abe's resignation is not impacted Cambodia as a whole, but it is surely impacted the spirit of Hun Sen's ministerial leadership.

Abe is actually a very responsible leader of Japan that doesn't take his powerful opportunity to last his position. He comes to power with the priority of national interests, not his personal interests.

At least, there are three types of world leadership:
1. One who has found out that his/her leadership is not publicly recognized or successful for the interests of the nation; he/she will volunteeringly step down.
2. One who has found out that his/her leadership has been tremendously successful for the interests of the nation. For example, state independence, economic growth integration and well-structured administrative system of democracy..etc; and he/she step down from power to relax and enjoy his/her successful works.
3. One who has found out that his/her leadership is too much selfish, long lasting power and somehow arrogance with power attachment...etc Seeing this, she/he will pursue self-realization and self-determination to handover the power to other in order to prioritize on national interests and his/her personal reputation.

Law of nature has never valued long lasting leader. As a smart or able leader, he/she naturally doesn't oppose the righteousness of political leaders.

Righteousness of political leaders is flexible and changeable, that why developed countries (both democratic or communistic nations) have periodically and frequently changed their leaders. Doing so, their nation will benefit more and more such as America, Australia, China and Vietnam...etc

See this peaceful resign in other country such as JAPAN, should KHMER leaders follow them to reserve the good intention or interest of its country and people? Please HUN SEN take this example from JAPAN. If you lack of ability to lead the country please other(s) that have capability, ability, knowledge and so on to steer Cambodian out of poverty. Please do so.

Mr. Abe resigns on his own will when he knows he can't earn the public confidence. This is the behavior of someone with good sense of judgement for the nation. For Hun Sen, even you kick him in the head, this illiterate man knows only defiance and at the same time resort to cheats and violence to legitimize himself in power, eventhough he knows it is against the wish of the nation.
