Mrs. Mu Sochua defended the election procedure for the new party secretary-general during the recent SRP party extraordinary congress, saying that the election was proper in spite of the fact that she was elected only to the position of first deputy secretary-general.
Mrs. Mu Sochua’s declaration was made after successive criticisms were raised following the party congress which was held on 08-09 September.
Regarding this change of position, Mrs. Mu Sochua told RFA: “First, I am confirming that the measure taken for this change was done through a democratic election, with a transparent procedure. And I was also a candidate, this means that between us, as democrats, when there is an election, we are united and we are competing with each other, we accept the results of the election based on the will of the voters.”
On several occasions, commentators are saying that the SRP are conducting its reform at a too fast pace, and (Rong Chhun), the President of the teachers’ association (CITA), as well as (Chea Mony), the President of the workers’ union, have criticized the return of Eng Chhay Eang to the position of party secretary-general, they said that this nomination was provided to a person who did not have a good past.
Puthea Hang, Director of the NICFEC organization which is involved in the election observation in Cambodia, said on Saturday that the congress and the position change of the SRP leadership are not unusual, but he said that the most important factor is the increase in the number of opposition parties in Cambodia.
Puthea Hang said: “The [SRP] reform does not bring a too different leadership than from the past. The previous leadership mandate had accomplished important roles in the party’s work also. But, nevertheless, we observe that the groups which proclaim themselves as democrats, they are still somewhat spread out (not united). I think that this spreading (lack of unity) could affect the decision of the people, when they divide themselves into too many groups, the votes are also divided.”
Nevertheless, Mrs. Mu Sochua is still confident that her party, the SRP, will receive a lot of supporting votes.
Regarding the return of Eng Chhay Eang position in the party, the SRP also issued a statement dated 13 September to clarify the general public that the issue of Eng Chhay Eang’s election to become the party secretary-general recently, this election was performed properly, and (Eng Chhay Eang’s) gambling problem in the past, was his part personal problem only.

Sayonara my beloved 50+ ONE Democrats formula.
Incorrible is incorrigible does!
Incorrigible is incorrigible does,is it true?
See Sihanouk,Mr.President political idol, for correct answer
Everyone is happy with the election result and the process was agreed to,please leave it to that. That is democracy.I believe Mr Eng Chhay Eang will follow the policies and regulations of party to serve the objectives of the party setout. It is indeed he had unpleasant past, but as long as he does not cross the lines creating conflict of interest then it should be fine. And also he is on the spot light, hopefully for the interest of the party and benefit of the country he will change that habit. It is good that individual recognise the mistake, accept it and willing to change.Noone is perfect thus give him a chance.
Yun Samneang,SA
As it seems, the perfect imperfect is prefect. So is the least injustice is justice to the injustice.
No one is perfect, hoow can one say to one is too many when comes to politic.
The usual spin rules.
This doesn't make sense. If SRP is democratic and "elected" the Secretary-General, then why only two Candidates? and the loser automatically becoming the "1 deputy"?
What about Vanol? He was not elected to the appointed to the "second Deputy"?
Why have election? it is a show!!!
Sam Rainsy knew quite well that bringing Eng Chhay Eang back will be a controversial thing but he has not choice. The money and the secret remain with Eng Chhay Eang.
I had learned very bad test from SRP and company. I wish Cambodia have a real compatriot leader one day. I am now doing charity more than I thought of before, I feel very good when real poor people say “thank you”.
I agree that We need a new democratic leader, a real one (not fake like Sam Rainsy). I remembered before 2003 at Montreal, my neighbor confess that when his friend who has attended a meeting with sam rainsy and srp members, when a man has asked in a corridor (face to face) sam rainsy if he can delivered of what He has told and promised to those members. Sam Rainsy has answered that it doesn't matter, those members will never know. Sam Rainsy took those people as ignorants. Just a bad sign for him!
For Eng Chhay Eang, I never saw someone has to heal for gambling, when He has play only with relatives. This Eng Chhay Eang is funny.
If it's only gambling, I think the ex-chief bodyguard of Sam Rainsy won't confess to me that he has to act as the mediator when some members has threaten Eng Chhay Eang's life. Sam Rainsy know better who's this ex-chief bodyguard than anyone else.
More and more, I think rumors that has saided before Chea Vechea was shot, he has a big dispute with Sam Rainsy because Chea Vechea never want SRP to do a tri-party government. Then Chea Vechea death's still mysterious and nebulous. Did Sam Rainsy has saided sorry to Chea Vechea's relatives for what He has brought Chea Vechea to death.
One thing is sure, Sam Rainsy have asked Cheam Channy to create an army for the party. i don't know why Hun Sen has dropped the case. Because this is not legal. One army, one country !
Anyway, whoever is SG for SRP, it couldn't be worst like Eng Chhay Eang ! I don't why they don't nominate Meng Rita as SG (and not provisory SG) when they nominate him.
Sam Rainsy, make a full himself about democracy elect new Secretary General. The guy name Eng Chhay Eang had been bad Reputation about corrupt ion and every body know that's guy bad, but why Sam Rainsy, bring this guy back? The countries had real democracy same like USA, if the guy had been resign do something bad, and the leader they never ever bring they bad guy to any post on they party. this make me feel a full?
