Tribunal officials have sent a letter to former king Norodom Sihanouk, the first correspondence through official channels following the monarch's invitation for talks.
It was unclear if the letter was an official decline to an open invitation to the Palace Sept. 8, but UN tribunal spokesman Peter Foster told the Cambodia Daily Thursday he had no authority to take part in discussions outside the purview of the court.
Controversy has surrounded the former king lately as to whether he is immune to tribunal proceedings seeking to prosecute former leaders of the regime.
Sihanouk sat at the head of a coalition that included the Cambodian communists prior to their takeover of the country in 1975. He has not been summoned to the courts—as defense or witness.
A palace official said Thursday the tribunal members should be honored by the invitation of the former king, a national "hero."

Sihanouk is called as a national hero by his few follower. For Cambodia people he is a Cambodia traitor who works for Hanoi and China. Shame on you to call this stupid, out of mind Sihanouk a national hero. Give me a break.

I hate to say this, Cambodia will never get better. When I want to read how progress Cambodia, but all I see this hate and blaming on King Sihanouk. Whatever King Sihanouk said these anti-Sihanouk will never be happy, so let them be.

For the Vietcong to capture and to archive such picture of King Sihanouk really show the dept, the involvement, the influent of the Vietcong with the Khmer Vietminh or the Khmer Rouge!
The Vietcong were smart enough to show only King Sihanouk with the Khmer Vietminh or the Khmer Rouge but what about the King Sihanouk with the Vietcong leaders and the Vietcong army and the Vietcong will never show! Ahahahahah!

This whole fucken UN court trial is Vietcong by design because the Vietcong puppet government has the power to shut down or to delay the UN court again and again! There is nothing new here! This KRT need to invite Vietnam to answer why did they create Khmer Rouge sinc ein 1930 and why did they name it Indochinese Communist Party?
Bring the record of BBC interviwed with Pol Pot about under his regime. Pol Pot did tell the world his boss Vietnamese Communist agents did kill Khmers. Pol Pot did join China and so China should be invited to KRT, too.
The war between the Capitalist and Communist led to kill million Khmers, we want compensation to rebuild Cambodia.
Vietnam was the main source of the genocide in Cambodia.
