MP Son Chhay indicated that Vietnam agreed to allow the relatives of former Monk Tim Sakhorn to visit him in the Vietnamese jail. However, the demand for his release is still being negotiated.
Son Chhay said: “The (Vietnamese) embassy met with me yesterday. They told me about a number of reasons, on their Vietnamese side, which led to the arrest of Mr. Tim Sakhorn, and the Vietnamese provided clarification answers on a number of the requests I made. They promised me that they will not impose hardships, nor torture Mr. Tim Sakhorn. And they said that they will help make arrangement for the family of Mr. Tim Sakhorn to meet him because the Vietnamese law allows it. I told them to push this issue further, they should release Mr. Tim Sakhorn as soon as possible. As I told you earlier, because I will meet with the Vietnamese Parliament delegation this Monday, the (Vietnamese) embassy is making arrangements to provide good results regarding Mr. Tim Sakhorn, so that the discussion meeting between the Cambodian (National Assembly) Foreign Affairs Committee and the Vietnamese (Parliament) Foreign Affairs Committee will go well and there would not be any issues of concern.

i think the vietnamese did the right thing by allowing the visit and not torturing tim sokhorn. if he is released, he should assure vietnam that he won't allow himself to be used by the westerners as a tool to subvert the good relations that cambodia currently enjoys with vietnam.
cambodia and vietnam are friends, not enemies. however, we cambodians must be smart to not make any more land concessions to vietnam or allow more vietnamese refugees into cambodia.
as for the ethnic vietnamese already in cambodia, we all need to reach out to them and integrate them into our society and culture and encourage to speak only khmer.
vietnamese cambodians are some of the most hard-working people in cambodia. everyone can learn from their fine work ethics and strong sense of community and use these lessons to improve our nation.
i hope members of cpp are reading my constructive message and implement some my ideas. we khmer must all unite and reject the divide and conquer schemes of the westerners. if we can keep them away from our women and children and kick them out, it's even better.

In regard to illegal immigrant, no one would want any illegal immigrant on their land, not Thai, Laos, Vietnam, nor Cambodia. Regretfully the problem is not as easy as it looks, not to mention the small sized budget at our disposal. Look, even the Super Rich US can't keep Mexican out of the US. So, how much do you expect from us? We have done the best we could. We've stop many from entering Cambodia, but we can't stop all of them. If they are desperate they'll find the way. The good news is (poor choice of words) Cambodia economy is not as good as Vietnam; thus, it will not attract anyone from here. The people that sneak in here are just those who hated communist that restrict their potential. And there is nothing wrong with having that type of people on our side.
Actually, Vietnam is having more illegal immigrant from our side of the fence than we have from theirs.

Whatever! I remembered in the 1980 after the Vietcong invasion of Cambodia and Cambodian refugees were pouring into Thai-Cambodian border! Soon after the United Nations established refugee camps!
I noticed that all these refugee camps are separated along ethnic line such as the Viet, Laos, Hmong, and Khmer! But what is so sad is the Khmer Resistance Force who is the only one fighting the Vietcong from over run these refugee camps!
It is kind a sad to hear all these Viet preaching about unity but deep down the Viet never want unity and they want to destroy the Khmer and maintain their domination over Khmer! Just look at the Khmer Krom people, there are over 10 million Khmer Krom who living under the Viet today and they are still fighting the Viet for freedom!
The Viet can claim all they want but they can’t hide the truth from Khmer people because Khmer people had been living next to them for along time and it is very predictable when the Viet say something because they like to gloat about themselves!
Good news! First, I am very gradeful to Mr. Son Chay, a very respectful and hard working parliament member who has worked tirelessly to bring this positive outcome. Keep your good work and serve your people honestly. I want to see more members of parliament from the CPP, who are courageous as if Mr. Son Chay. But so far, none of the CPP members dare to speak about this issue with the Vietnamese authority. Only the opposition members who dare to raise this issue with the Vietnamese. Now we get some positive result from them. So if you are a true representative of your people and your country, you must be brave enough to speak up against any act of injustice in order to defense your people and nation regardless of where it come from.
3:19. you are absolutely correct, sir. america has 12 million illegal immigrants (almost the population of cambodia) from mexico and central america. cambodia cannot absorb illegal immigrants from vietnam like vice versa because we're a much smaller country.
i think dr. hun sen is smart enough to realize this, but he is in a very, very complex situation. although i hate to admit this, vietnam is light years ahead of us in terms of development. the vietnamese who flee to cambodia are those who cannot compete with other vietnamese. i think we khmer people tend to be too complacent to acknowledge and respect the talents of the vietnamese.
like you said, no khmer wants to lose his land to any country, especially vietnam. but people should understand the complexity of the situation we are in. only someone as strong and intelligent as dr. hun sen can keep our country in one piece.
the westerners like to go into cambodia and talk about democracy, human rights, or whatever. but it's a trick to get our people submit to their supremacy rather than seeking our own sovereignty. for instance, cambodia receives about $25 to $50 million in foreign aid from the U.S. and many of us think that they care about us. what they don't realize is that israel, a country with half our population, recieves about $20 to $30 BILLION a year, about 800 times what we get from the US. i cannot believe that some of us are ignorant enough to think americans care about us. anyway, whether they do or don't doesn't...we should care about ourselves and not depend on others.
as for myself, i have no ties with the cambodian government. however, i do hope those who do consider some of my ideas to bring unity to cambodia and strengthen our country.

The US had no business in Indochina in the late 1940's. After Vietnam defeated the French, the Vietnamese people was going to democratically voted on whether to let the North or the South ruling their country. What is wrong with that? Why can we leave that alone and let it be. Here, we have the North that is Communist running against the South that is Democracy and the people are going to vote. What is the chance that people will pick the North Communist to control their country?

The Communist Russian and Chinese were reaching out to the Vietcong way before the Vietcong defeat the French and arm these Vietcong to the teeth to take over Indochina and make the Viet as the master of Indochina because it is the Vietcong who controlled all the communist movement in Indochina including Cambodia and Laos as well!
Uncle SAM perceived the Vietcong communist movement as threat to the whole Southeast Asia stability and that is why Uncle SAM came up with the Domino Theory Doctrine aiming the destroy the communist from spreading through out South East Asia!
Cambodia paid a heavy price for stopping the Vietcong communist from spreading through out Southeast Asia during the cold war!
By the way the Vietcong in the North have no intention of keeping the peace and they just want to take over the South more than anybody because the South has more fertile land and rich in natural resources that can support the whole Vietcong population in the North and beside the South are economically vibrant than the North and even today!
The North can claim to be the Capitol of Vietname but it is the South that produces all the bread and butter for the Vietcong population as whole and even today the South is the main economic engine that drives the whole Vietcong economy!
Nope, after the defeat of the French, the war in Vietnam ended. They were going to vote to let the North or the South to run the country. The French were going to help to setup the election for them. There were no Chinese nor Russian involved in the Vietnamese Democratic election. No one know who's going to win or lose because they never had a chance to vote when the US came to stop the election.
