23 October is a historical day for Cambodia which celebrates the signing of the Paris Peace Agreements leading to the establishment of peace in Cambodia. The signing of this agreement brought together the 4 Cambodian warring parties to agree to resolve their conflicts and bring peace to Cambodia. It was through this agreement that the warring Cambodian parties dropped their weapons and entered into a democratic race through the election process. It was also through this agreement that Cambodia became a multi-party democracy. Ever since 1991, Cambodia considered this date as having a significant historical meaning, and government officials and private employees were given one day off. However, in the past 2-year, the meaning of this date no longer receives the attention is deserves. Hun Sen’s government decided to cancel the celebration of 23 October from the list of holydays, and no major commemoration events are organized, unlike how it was in the early 90s.

CPP remembers those that help them to attain the current power.
Yes, we (real Khmer) don't forget that type of thing ever.
Much of Hanoi success of the Vietnamization of Cambodia has been determined by how much uncontrolled Cambodia problems have been khmerized, in other words making everything become Cambodia internal problem. So please use the word "khmerize or khmerization" sparingly!
I totally agree with you anon. @ 8:25 AM
I wish what 8:25 said was true, but that is far from the truth. Khmer people has been far more westernized than Vietnamized. Just look at picture of Khmer people anywhere. Virtually all of them wearing westerner clothing. It will be a miracle if you see a Khmer person wearing Vietnamese clothing.
9:01 AM, who are you trying to kid? How childish do you want to get? Vietnamization means wearing Vietnamese clothing? Damn...
Even the Viets in Vietnam wear Western clothes, but the outfits don't change their mindset. Cambodians wear Western clothes because those clothes are second-hand (chochous), which they can afford to buy. The rich CPP criminals use brand-new, brand-name and expensive Western clothes and products.
The Viets living in Cambodia also wear Western clothes, but their mindset is always the same: their domination and control over Cambodia through deception. The Viet idea is that the colonised people can wear and do what they like (usually to the Viet advantage), but they have to remain under the Viet agenda.
Okay then, 9:22, how many Khmer in Cambodia do you know off who observed Vietnamese holiday, and how many observed westerner's holiday?
I hope that makes you feel better.
The CPP wants to indoctrinate Cambodian people's memory that it was not the Paris Peace Accords that brought peace to Cambodia, it was the Viet invasion and occupation on 7 January 1979, to which they are forever grateful.
All the subsequent sufferings and deaths, such as the K5 programme, torture and imprisonment (in secret prisons in Cambodia and Vietnam), and forced conscription of young Khmer men, under the CPP regime are being erased from memory.
Although the Viet and Chinese New Year is not a public holiday, don't expect to see many people at work in both public institutions and private sector, except for NGOs and UNOs. When the Viets and Chinese close their shops for their holidays, Khmer people have no choice but to follow.
It's the truth. Vietnam liberation is what brought peace to Cambodia. How can anyone denied that? Are you saying that living under the Khmer Rouge is more peaceful?
Yeah khmerize it all you want 10:12 AM. That what's called Vietnamizing Cambodia by khmerization. That's what the Viet called it. The truth is that the world sees the Viet as invaders.
10:12AM
Can anyone deny that there was no fighting during the Viet occupation from 1979 to the late 1980s? You must be blind to think there was peace during that period. There was peace during the KR regime, but there were famine and execution, until their fall from power. Nobody said it was a good regime.
You have learned fake history lessons from the Viets quite well.
10:12 AM, are you serious??? Viets came to liberate Khmers? Then it is all a f*&%ed-up reasoning! Why did it take almost 4 years and 2 million lives? And then more lives lost during their occupation?
Why did they take 4 years? because vietnam did not recovered from the war yet, that is why, 10:55.
As for more live lost during Vietnam occupation, it is no difference than more live lost during the US occupation in Iraq right now. Get it?
He is Yuon puppet. He loves to see his own people suffer. Idiot!
No, we only like to see Ah Khmer-Yuon suffers.
Hun Sen cronies and their gangs are kowtowing Vietnam to abolish this important day...but they celebrate January 7, 1979.
Oct 23 is Ah Chkout day. Jan 7 is a day where all Khmer men, women, and children are free. It is our Freedom day, alright?
7 jan. is the day "YOUN ROBBERY DAY" and YOUN AGGRESSOR DAY .
Hey, that is what they supposed to do to free us. I mean rob Ah Khmer Rouge aggressively.
Chey Yoh, Vietnam, Chey Yoh!
