Another person died from eating puffer fish (Trey Kampot), after the death of a 13-year-old boy from puffer fish poisoning at the end of last week. The Rasmei Kampuchea newspaper quoted Kim Sarith, director of the fisheries department in the province of Takeo, who said that 2 persons died after eating salted puffer fish imported from Vietnam, and the number of people hospitalized amounted to 34. Most of the victims are living in Kirivong and Treang districts. Touch Seang Tana, a member of the investigation team of the finance, social, and cultural department of the Council of Ministers, said that, based on preliminary investigation, the puffer fish poisoning could originate from the use of chemical insecticide sprayed on the fish to prevent flies from depositing their eggs on the fish. The amount of insecticide used may be too high, and the fish was not dried properly, therefore the insecticide is still very strong in the fish. The Takeo province fisheries and Cam Control departments have confiscated 35 kilograms of salted puffer fish from all areas of the province, they will be destroyed.

I told you so: The little suckers are perfectly safe.
BTW, the puffer in the picture is not the one I consumed. That one look more like the larger specie of the puffer that I released. When they don't blow up like that, they look real cute. You must see it to believe it.
Sue the fucken Vietcong importer for all the damage and the destruction on Cambodian people life! Nobody wants to use dangerous products!
It is full of bullshit to blame the "use of chemical insecticide sprayed on the fish" which kill Cambodian people!
It is the fucken poison in the fish and why AH Touch Seang Tana, a member of the investigation team is trying to cover up for the Vietcong importer? Take the fucken blood sample and prove it!
Oh, and another interesting characteristic of the puffer fish is that they are not bonny at all. They don't even have any rib like other fishes, otherwise they can't puff.
To 1:04PM!
Who are you? Why you know so much? Are you Puff daddy?
No, I am not a Puff daddy. I know about fish because I fish a lot, at least once of twice per month. Furthermore, I am only interested in a certain species. I love to give you my list but I don't recalled all the name for them.
In general, I love to eat predator fish. I mean fish that consume other fish, and you can tell by looking in their mouth to see it they have sharp teeth, maybe 1mm or longer.
What I enjoyed most about fishing is trick them with lure or booby trap them. It is sort of a hobby of mine. Try it sometime. I think you'll have as much fun as I have.
i don't know about other people, the place where i come it is natural for us to not eat puffer fish because we be told it has natural poisoning mechanism in its body. I thought all Khmers knew this. Whether it had been chemically sprayed or not, a puffer fish is still a dangerous fish to me.
Regretfully, I have tested both educated and uneducated people about fish. It seems the only people who know which fish is safe and which fish is potentially lethal are the fishermen themselves. The general public just think fish are fish and it is safe to eat.
In general, I think it is the environment they live in, in addition to their natural defence mechanism. If a fish lived in a pollute area they will not be good for eating. If a fish that eat poisonous fish or creature, they will not be a good fish to eat, ... . And all scavenger fish must be cook well done because they eat dead creatures and things in the bottom of the water, just like vulture eat rotten meat on the ground, Yurk!
Also, I try not to consume some chunk of fish from the market that I don't anything about. I mean how big the fish is? how old the fish is? where they live? ... . And that is also how I got into fishing for my self.
To 10:25PM!
Thank for your advice!
You're welcome, buddy.
