The king should gives the directive for the country. I think he awfully quiet about anything for the country but that is not the role of the king from the constitution. He plays safe in the face of Hun Sen dictatorship but he sacrifices his reputation as a great king in the Khmer history book.
While, I appreciate the King westerner mentally can be useful to build good relationship with westerners, I certainly wished he's a bit more Khmer than French.
I can tell you that the king image is not all that great from a Khmer point of view. I hope he will seek help from our ancestors' spirits to make him a better King for Khmer people.
It is the duty of the King to do the following!
1. King must be loved by all his people including all political parties which mean he must be neutral and be able to unite his people and all the political parties in time of internal crisis or in time of external great danger!
2. King must protect his Kingdom!
3. King must protect his people!
If our Khmer King can perform the following duty, the peace, the stability, and the prosperity will flourish in Cambodia for many more generation to come and his name will live forever!
