Khieu Samphan, the former president of the Democratic Kampuchea (DK) regime or Khmer Rouge regime, has selected a Cambodian lawyer to defend him at the upcoming trial by the ECCC, when he will be arrested and charged as Nuon Chea was, recently.
Khieu Samphan’s search for a lawyer comes at a time when the ECCC did not even issue a summon for him, or arrested him yet.
Khieu Samphan is currently 77-year-old. The former president of the KR regime told RFA on Thursday, over the phone from Pailin, that he found a Cambodian lawyer already. He chose Dr. Say Bory, the former member of the Constitutional Council of Cambodia.
Khieu Samphan said: “I saw that Mr. Say Bory seems not to belong to any political party. He is a law professor, and when he became a lawyer, he does not seem to chase after money. I see him as very mature.”
Khieu Samphan indicated that in the past, he found a French lawyer already. He said that he is not scared because he is not involved in ordering the killing under the KR regime, and he said that he has no plan to flee either.
Khieu Samphan stressed by saying: “I have no plan to flee, first of all. I did nothing wrong. I know myself that I did nothing wrong at all.”
He told RFA that he has a strong health, however, he is ridden with one disease: urine in his blood stream forced him to avoid eating chicken or drinking wine.
Regarding Khieu Samphan’s defense, Dr. Say Bory told RFA that he is ready to defend Khieu Samphan.
Dr. Say Bory said: “Right now, there is no summon (for him) yet, he only asked me to be his lawyer in the event he is summoned. I agreed to that.”
Up until now, among the 5 main suspects in the former KR leaders group, only 2 are being incarcerated by the KR Tribunal: Kaing Kek Iev, aka Duch, the former director of the Tuol Sleng jail who is charged with crime against humanity, and Nuon Chea, the former president of the KR National Assembly, who is jailed under the charge of crime against humanity and war crimes.
According to research documents, the KR regime killed almost 2 million Cambodians between 1975 and 1979. This regime was toppled on 07 January 1979 by the Vietnamese troops. This toppling is qualified by some opinions as an invasion of Cambodia by the Vietnamese troops.

In a way, the Civil War is not fully ended. Here, they use the legal system, instead of ammunitions to defense themselves.
End buddy? You're dreaming! and if it happens to be your nightmare, it's now is coming true. Hahahahahaha ....Only this time, it's not a nightmare at all. It's the best time for the many Cambodian. Most of us are waiting for the true justice for our loved one for a very very long time. We just don't say it. 2 millions death was a lot of number. You few people probably don't want it to happen, but we do. They say, you have to go thru the darkest night first, before the morning comes. That darkest time seemed to be behind us already and for tomorrow, we'll see nothing, but the morning Sun!
Hey! only you fool think that it's o.k for your loved should die like animal and it's alright that no one care for them. Keep dreaming best buddy!
Don't get exited, dude. Do you see the defendence shaking?
Please don't get us wrong that we want to get even with Mr. Noun Chea or Mr. Kiev Samphon. We only care to know who is the real killer? and see to it that it's not o.k to go around and just took someone's life away or just destroy someone's life and their family for some kind of their weirdest fantacy. They just need to be told, punished and get locked up for life! That is all that we care about. No one on this Earth deserves to live in fear, because of some Psyco or wacko going around and just able to kill or make other so miserable, just because of their retarded mind.
Good luck to all the defendants and their lawyers!!! In the end, all the true will set us free!
Just please becareful, if your not the real killer than you need to really look out, who is the one that did? and if they don't want you to tell the truth, you should know that they are extremely dangerous.
Come on dude, Let's be realistic about this. Killers is not stupid enough to confess so that they can spend the rest of their life behind bars. You have to put them on the spot to put them away, and this required a bigger cannon (better lawyer) then they got, or else they walk.
Anyway it will be interesting to know who's on the prosecutor side. Anyone got info?
What was his mane? The one from Canada & his team? Wouldn't it?
We are sure that The International Team had spent years compiling this case & million of dollars spending along as well doing research or searching for the truth. This isn't just about the Cambodian alone. It's about the right to being a Human for the whole World! No one! we repeat that no one! should just be able to go around & kill other people! and this KR's trail is going to be big! get ready!.
We don't care who will get locked up, but someone will and should be for life! or give them to a hungry Shark! Go for it!!! Please get them out of this planet Earth!
Well, the bottom line is can people take a NO GUILTY verdict?
If they will be found not guilty, then they will not. People of Cambodia just died out of being just an unfortunate people.
Just watch where the next finger will be pointing out. Get Ready!
What people must realize is even if the court find them not guilty, it doesn't mean they are not guilty. It just mean the justice system is lacking capability. That is all, and we should just move on.
