Son Chhay: Why the other three KR leaders are not arrested yet?

Son Chhay: ECCC could be discriminating

A high ranking opposition official declared today about his suspicion that the arrest of former Khmer Rouge leaders involved in the genocide of millions of people, could be done discriminately.

In a letter sent to the ECCC, SRP MP Son Chhay asked why there is no arrest made on the other three KR leaders: Ieng Sary, Ieng Thirith, and Khieu Samphan.

Son Chhay said about this issue: “I am asking why they arrested Nuon Chea? Why they didn’t arrest the other (KR leaders)? These are questions only. If they answer that the arrest of Nuon Chea is based on reasons that are not clear and not in good standing, then they should release Nuon Chea back. (His case) should be the same as for Khieu Samphan and Ieng Sary (who are not arrested yet). However, if they say that the arrest of Nuon Chea is because of this reason or another, then for Khieu Samphan who also shares the same burden, the ECCC should arrest them all and bring them all to jail.”

Son Chhay made this declaration because, up to now, the ECCC only issued arrest warrants against two KR leaders: Kaing Kek Iev, aka Duch, the Tuol Sleng prison chief, and Nuon Chea, the former president of the assembly of the Democratic Kampuchea regime. They are the only two persons who do not enjoy freedom, among the other KR leaders.

Reach Sambath, ECCC spokesman, said that Son Chhay’s declaration is regrettable because it could be construed as interference in the court authority.

Reach Sambath said: “Among all the names of the people he (Son Chhay) described, it’s his business. But, for the tribunal, up until now, only the names of two suspects among the group of leaders from the Democratic Kampuchea regime have been confirmed, and they bear the highest responsibility. As for the three other names who have been proposed by the co-prosecutors, the tribunal did not reveal them yet. One more thing that we believe is that we want an independent tribunal, therefore, the writing of a letter asking to arrest this or that person, we believe that it is interference.”

In the past, the KR Tribunal – a joint contribution work between Cambodia and the UN – has been criticized by various sources because the Cambodian legal officials working there are not fully independent, and that the tribunal is also embroiled in corruption as well.

That is such a stupid question. If you want them arrested, just submit good evidence/s to the ECCC.

Eh, your parents are the prime witnesses and they have all the evidence.

Ah Lop, before you open your stinky mouth, you should use your brain.

It's not interference of the court process Reach Sambath. People have the right to question your work and you have the responsibility to explain to the public the position of the court. Interference is the wrong word.

Anonymous said...

No, "interfering" is the right word, but you are right about people entitled to the information at anytime they want. The problem is you didn't pay the ECCC to have a spokesman to give out daily press conference. Therefore, send in some cashes if that is what you want.

Anonymous said...

Explain the court stance is not interference. Meddling with the outcome of the court verdict is interference.

Anonymous said...

Nope, not really, if someone paid the court to alter its verdict, that is bribing, lobbying, or corrupting the court.

Anyhow, the outcome of the court will not be always the truth, so stop worshiping it too much. If the prosecutor is stronger than the defendence, the verdict will likely be Guilty; on the other hand, if the defendant is stronger than the prosecutor, the verdict will likely be Not Guilty. I won't used anything from the court to write history, let me put it to you that way.

Anonymous said...

Oh okay, 2:53, if you are trying to prevent the court from start or finish, that is interfering.

Anonymous said...

That's just a rhetorical question! CPP is in controlled, not ECCC!

The End. (((:

INDEPENDENT TRIBUNAL SHOULD COME OUT WITH INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT.
I LEARNT ABOUT POL POT TRIAL, PLASTIC KILLERS AND I HOPE ECCC TRIAL IS GOING TO BE PLASTIC TRIAL.

WE SHALL WAIT AND SEE IF INDEPENDENCE HAS ITS TRUE MEANING.

True, 4:44, the bottom line is the khmer government will have the final saying, but only to the extend that the ECCC is violating any Khmer law.
Other than that, the ECCC can do whatever they want.

Anyway, I want to ask you folks a hypothetical question, if you don't mind. So, grab on to your chair. Here it come: Let say that the court find a couple guilty one, and the king chose to pardon them. How would you feel about that, can you tell me?

Mr Son Chhay is one of the most respectable member of parliament of modern khmer. Only animal born people who dare to insult him. Without people like Son Chhay, Cambodian parliament will be like a farm of animal like human being because they don't have any intelligence to work in that Institution. I have my full respect to Mr Son Chhay and his colleagues. They deserved not only fully respect but a full recognition of their positif contribution to Cambodian society too. Areak Prey

Yeah, but we don't care about the damn parliament, we only care about job, job, job, and Ah Chkout Son Chhay is a job deterrent that make people suffered decade after decade.

Mr. 9:29 AM, Thank you for sharing with us your concerns about our Cambodia economy, JOBS, it is very true that there's still people who want to work that can't find a job. I think it's safe to say most Khmer people share the sense of optimism as I do, but you should be recognized that there's still work to be done, particularly, the government must be committed to good legal policy, rule of law. We khmer should encourage PM Son Chhay to talk seriously with the government about the need for reducing an energy cost and inflation. We khmer should also encourage PM Son Chhay to talk more about fair trade for Khmer manufacturers and products. PM Son Chhay should talk with the government about the need for China and Vietnam to make sure that Vietnam and China's got a monetary and trade policy which must be fair toward Cambodia. The thing you are also concerned about is people being unable to find a job due to rampant corruption, and the depleting of our natural resources. PM Son Chhay had recently put the conditions in place for good job creation, if you had spent sometime listen to the RFA lately, and I believe PM Son Chhay is dedicated to hearing the voices of those folks like you and working hard to expand our economy, you should drop him an E mail.

What? we lost jobs because of our natural resources being depleted? And what type of natural resources have we depleted so far, and what job have we lost over it?

As for rampant corruption, where should we be on the Transparency International corruption scale before we can created job?

And tell me what is the fair trade are we seeking between us and Vietnam and China. And if we can't get it, will Ah Chkout Son Chhay throw them out of the country?

.
.

In summary, You must be out of your mind. With the exception of jobs, no one have committed suicided over what Ah Chkout is doing. The truth is, he's campaign for the election loudly and deterred job from our desperate people. Get it?

People who have suffered from unemployment should blame to Cham Prasit, Sar Kheng and Hok Lundy. You cannot blame anything to MP Son Chhay. He is an opposition party. His job is fighting with Government policies which have brought Cambodia into mass unemployed, corruption, land grabbeds etc.... It was Cham Prasit incompetentency which he cannot attract genuine investors into Cambodia. we must blame Sar Kheng and Hok Lundy for public unsecurity which have scared people away from investing in Cambodia. We must blame Hun Sen for taking too much monies from investors which have scared people away from Cambodia. we must blame Minister of justice for injustice problems. We must blame all other ministers for open tooo big mouth to suck people monies. Without Son Chhay and Sam Rainsy in Cambodia, the international communities will pull out from Cambodia, and then Hun Sen will make everyone poor again like in 1979. Everyone must go to paddies field and grow rice. That is for real. Areak Prey

Well then, when was the last time that Ah Chkout Son Chhay or anyone of his clan blasted the government about the high unemployment?

What about the Anti-Corruption law? I don't see anyone motivated to get that done.

We had people died left and right and the entire SRP don't even know what what causing it. They seem to think that people died from lack of perfect democracy. What type of twisted logic is that?

Anonymous said...

cambodia no job ,f ...Ah khmer rouge Cpp....cause cambodia no job.

Anonymous said...

how did we do that?

Anonymous said...

Some fool blame Son Chhay if he was in power! Tell me who is in power in Cambodia today? If HUN SEN is not in power and who is in power?

Anonymous said...

Well, we need stability in Cambodia to attract businesses to the country whether you like it or not. We don't need people to exploit the country for their political gain by making immature sceneries everywhere.

Anonymous said...

4:42 PM
You got a big mouth! Your analytical sense is nonsense. Your had shown the depthless in your head about jobs creation. Your are right in one sense, Cambodia needs jobs, lots of jobs. How do you create job when there are holes in the laws and law enforcement. If you have some thought you should not blame anyone here for saying negative things about your incompetent CPP government. For of all Cambodia is not for sale for any kinds of jobs. We as a country do want to have dignity for our people and at the same conserve our natural resource for generation. Sorry I have to go...

Anonymous said...

Well, so far we haven't got any complaint from any of the thousands of company about any hole in our laws or law enforcement. Therefore, you must be dreaming.

And I disagree about the type of job needed for desperate people here. They don't care about dignity or craps. They want something that is better than to have to poison their village and town with narcotic drug, or robbing their neighbor to feed their children, or prostitute themselves to foreigner... .

Anonymous said...

shame! isn't it? for this incapable government to have these people unemployed and committing such crime in society. it shows their inability to govern the country. how much longer should we allow such incompetent to go on? it's only you the fool believe in it and support in your helpless mind.

Anonymous said...

Nope, the country is doing great. We are one of the fastest growing countries on the planet. It is just that we can do better, if we get all the seat in the parliament. Plus, we can also do better if idiots will stop creating nonsense sceneries to deter businesses from the people who long waited for it.

7:04AM
are you a sold out slave? you don't want the truth to be heard about this mafia government? are you a communist?

Anonymous said...

Yep, 7:04 AM has a lobster brain logic. No one is going to invest in a country with rampant corruption. If you wonder how bad the corruption is in Cambodia, just read the Global Witness report. Oh! you can not read the report if you are living in Cambodia because the Hun Sen government does not want Cambodians to know how corrupt his government is.

Hey, no business in Cambodia cares about the stupid logs. As the matter fact, they are glad that the trees are gone, so that they have room to expand.
