The court hearing for Puth Chandarith, the former governor of the province of Kampot who was jailed since July 2006 under the charge of destroying forests, and grabbing and appropriating for himself lands belonging to farmers, started since 30 September 2007, but no verdict was issued in this case. The Koh Santepheap newspaper reported that one Kampot court official indicated that the court will issue its official verdict in the morning of 04 October, at that time, it will be known how long Puth Chandarith will be sentenced to jail, or whether he will be released. Puth Chandarith was a member of the Funcinpec party, he was arrested and held in jail for the past 16 moths, starting from July 2006 until October of this year. The court already held 3 hearings in this case, and the last one was held on 30 September 2007, but no verdict was issued.
