The Ministry of Education indicated that the number of Cambodian children who do not complete elementary school is about 50%, and that this is due to poverty.
During the third celebration of the day for the March against Hunger in Cambodia, on 04 November 2007, Bou Chum Serey, the secretary of state of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS), said that 90% of school age children have registered to attend school, however, not all of the children complete elementary school.
Bou Chum Serey said: “Among all these children, only 50% of them can complete their elementary school. We know that extremely poor families could choose not to send their children to school. We all must participate together to fight against hunger.”
Mrs. Kong Kanitha, an official of the FAO which organized this celebration, talked about the fact that in the world, 18,000 children die each day from lack of food.
Kong Kanitha added that the FAO organized this celebration in order to relieve half of the poor people in the world from hunger.
Kong Kanitha sadi: “We must raise the issue of hunger and bring it up to the front page. The action in the world in the fight against hunger was done to push the world population to ask their governments to work harder to put an end to this shameful hunger.”
One girl among the multitude of other girls, who used to live on a pile of trash (Stung Meanchey) declared that her life on a pile of trash was met by constant fear and daily starvation. “I collected recyclable objects from a huge pile of trash which is very accident prone, when I am tired and hungry, I have to pick up food or rotten fruits (from the trash), clean them … pick up the acceptable ones, and eat them to fill my stomach. I don’t have the mean to go to school like other children do, my eyes swell up with tears when I stare at other children walking to school.”
According to FAO officials, in 2006, the FAO provided food to 22 million children, about half a million of whom are Cambodian children. In 2008, the FAO plans to feed at least 50 million children in the world, including 550,000 Cambodian children.

Ah Sam Rainsy did not make bad thing to Khmer children because he is not in the powper.It is Ah Hun Sen that must be responsible for the Khmer kids. Yes ! I agree with 10:43 AM! It is Prime Minister Hun Sen responsibility for the fate of children who could not finish primary school. Hun Sen is the head of the government and the government has Ministry of Education and the government controls the resources of the country. So when you failed to achieve anything you do not have to blaim other poeple. Will you blaim China, America, Japan or Vietnam ? It is ashamed that a weak and corrupt government that is not responsible for thier failure and trie to blaim the others !

We are extremely disturb by this photo. Our hearts are broken into a million pieces and extremly extremly disturb by your seeming to turn your head away or not able to do anything. No Khmer's kid should ever go hungry, Your Majesty and certainly not go wondering around trash.

Where will these 50% dropped-out children be in 5 years? 10 years?. Do you find any in your family? relative family? Can we do someting now until it's too late? It's a wake up call for all of us... No one will take care ours...

Without Education, people seem to have a short of Ideas. They can't do any much better than those who are educated. Some studies results that the development of a country has a strong correlation with Primary &Secondary Education variables.

It is really painful to see our cambodian children living on the trash on daily basis, and with constant fear of starvation.Is this a result of economic booming in cambodia???.
We know that the government and its cronies do not care about it.
This is the kind of government with slogan of" people get rich before government does", in fact only hiarrachy and the cronies get rich and cambodians get poorer.Land grabbing and poor management end up with hundred of thousand cambodians scattered along the border and in Thailand as slaves and beggers.
I am very pleased to see our younger generation in UNI has paid attention to our poor disavantaged cambodians.Simply our society relies on young generation with knowledge, skills and compassion for our civilasation to continue.
Please send all these pictures of mistreated cambodians to our king see if he would drop in these sites for a change.Our handicapped PM is busy to promote his son and his family tree but not for real and poor cambodians.

The problem is the whole environment in Cambodia is so fuck up that Cambodian people become so desensitize to their surrounding and they began to look at everything as being normal and normal it is!
This is my prediction about this kid. By now he would have thousand and thousand of parasitic organisms living in his body and by the age of 30 to 40 years the parasites will begin to attack his heart and that is the end him! I have notice that majority of Cambodian people are dying of heart disease! Dirty living condition won't promote healthy heart or healthy living!
