Phnom Penh - Six Cambodian men were charged with brutally murdering a man they believed was a sorcerer, and beating his 4-year-old son, police said Tuesday. Penal police chief of the central province of Kampong Chhnang, Chim Buntheun, said the six, aged between 19 and 30, are charged with attacking farmer Sam Meuon, 45, with axes, hoes and sticks as he returned home from work with his son at around 7pm Friday.
"They accused him of using black magic on the village so they chopped and hit him and the boy," Buntheun said by telephone.
"Meuon managed to get the boy to run to safety after only a few blows, but then the mob shattered his skull and killed him instantly before hanging his body by the feet from a bridge."
He said the child was hospitalized but released after treatment for shock and lacerations.
If convicted of murder and assault, the accused would face 20 years in prison.
Superstition-related killings are not uncommon in Cambodia and may be motivated by anything from an outbreak of disease to crop failure. Because sorcery is believed to run in families, children are often targeted as well as their parents.

sorcerer to me jealous people.last year my uncle back in cambodia blame sorcerer in his village because in his eyes "my mom was giving more money to my aunt than him".it was sad to see.MONEY THE ROOT OF EVIL
