Son Chhay plans to remind Vietnam about Ven. Tim Sakhorn’s case

Translated from Khmer by Socheata

Opposition MP Son Chhay plans to send a letter to the Vietnamese embassy in Cambodia to forward to Son Tong Son, the vice-chairman of the Vietnamese southwest party central committee, to remind him about the promise he gave on the release of 5 Khmer Monks jailed in Khleang province (Soc Trang in Vietnamese) and former Venerable Tim Sakhorn.

In the afternoon of 02 January 2008, Son Chhay told Rasmei Kampuchea over the phone that he plans to send a letter to the Vietnamese embassy to remind Son Tong Son who promised Son Chhay that he will coordinate for the certain release of Ven. Tim Sakhorn. At the same time, Son Tong Son also promised that during holidays, such as the Vietnamese New Year celebration, for example, there is a reduction of sentences (for people being jailed).

Son Chhay added that his letter would only be to remind Son Tong Son to look into the whereabout of the promises he made to Son Chhay, because he is waiting to know about the date of the release of the monks. Son Chhay added that he already drafted the letter and planned to send it out a day earlier, but he had to delay the sending because of his meeting schedule.

Venerable Yoeung Sin, President of the Khmer Kampuchea-Krom Monks Associaiton and Abbot of the Samaky Raingsey pagoda, said that it is an honor to see a MP involved to help resolve this case, and that he depends entirely on Son Chhay to resolve and intervene because Son Chhay may be more efficient than him (Ven. Yoeung Sin), because, as a monk, he has more difficulties in the resolution of this case, and he does not play an (important) role in society either. Therefore, Ven. Yoeung Sin will let MP Son Chhay help resolve this issue.

Ven. Yoeung Sin said that, in the past, he also sent letters to the Vietnamese embassy in Cambodia, but that they did not go anywhere as they were all prevented (from being delivered to the Vietnamese embassy in Phnom Penh).

Ven. Tim Sakhorn was the former abbot of the Phnom Den North pagoda, who was defrocked by the Vietnamese authority, and subsequently jailed after he was accused of undermining the solidarity between Cambodia and Vietnam. The Vietnamese court sentenced him to one-year of jail time.

Since the arrest of Ven. Tim Sakhorn, there were several protests from the public, in particular from Khmer Kampuchea-Krom monks.

Dear Mr. Son Chhay,

I am glad you are brave to speak up with the YOUN regime, not like the top leaders of Cambodia government who are just puppet of Hanoi Regime.

As you know that Son Tong Son is just a Khmer Krom who works like a dog for YOUN, so Ven. Tim Sakhorn is released or not, it is not up to Son Tong Son. It is up to the Hanoi regime. You should send letter to Hochiminh's Son, Nong Duc Manh, or YOUN Prim Minister, Nguyen Tan Dung.

It is great to see a Cambodia MP can speakup for his citizen. You will get more vote for supporting Khmer cause. It is ashamed for Cambodian government for refusing to protect its own citizen.

Hi all!

Are there any truth or validity to the following news in which you are about to read?:

Your comments are greatly appreciated.

Poor Khmer people receive houses

Soc Trang province has built over 2,000 houses to the tune of VND 13 billion (US $812,500) for poor Khmer ethnic families in 2007, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

The agency said that the funding was sourced from the Government’s Programme 134 regarding housing for the poor as well as donations in cash and land from local agencies, organisations and people.

Over the past three years, the province has built houses for nearly 10,000 poor families under the programme. Of the families, 5,500 received an additional two breeding cows worth VND 10 million to improve household economy.

Khmer forever! Yuon out of Cambodia!

Son Tong Son, the vice-chairman of the Vietnamese southwest party central committee

what makes you assume that this man is another Khmer? You think Khmer would have a high position like that in Vietnam government?

Don't you know the last name means nothing? Khmer Krom last names are forced from Vietnamese/Chinese names you know that already. So this man having the last name Son does not mean he is Khmer-Krom, he is Vietnamese.

Hanoi is playing game to delay the release of Khmer Krom monk. They want to jail the monk until the sentence about to expire, then release him. They will claim that for good gesture from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Tmil Ort Sasna, to Hun Sen, Ah Nor Rouk Av Va Chhey, Here is your prisoner that I just release. This is what Hanoi wants to do. Where is Ah Chkourt Hun Sen and Sihanouk? Why they let Hanoi and Siem do whatever they want? Where the fuck of these two idiots and more-on? Brain deaths......

While the case of Van Sakhorn disappoints almost all Khmers, the question over the activities of MP Son Chhay also doubtful to what he is doing is to build up his individual reputation, rather for the nation, to survive his career in Cambodia politics.

Question to be asked is where Son Chhay was during the event when Kampuchea Krom monks went to VN embassy in PPenh in the purpose of handing their petition letter to VN. If he were there with those monks, they might have not been beaten by cops.

Come on Chhay! make it real. You just bark behind the thief.

To 8:52PM! Get real!

Mr. Son Chhay went to Vietname to seek the release of Monk Tim Sakhorn but the Vietcong government play dirty trick on him by refusing to discuss about Tim Sakhorn issue and so he came back to Cambodia with nothing!

It is very weak of you to put all the blame on Mr. Son Chhay! I haven't heard you blame your leader AH HUN SEN Vietcong slave who started this fucken issue by deporting monk Tim Sakhorn to Vietname in the first place!

All Cambodian people are a victim under AH HUN SEN Vietcong slave government and what is the fucken point for blaming the victim?

You didn't read the text thoroughly. 8:25 didn't blame Son Chhay, but calling him to do better job than that. 8:25 is probably right about Son Chhay who didn't want to catch thief, but call for help when the thief left the scene. Tracking up his actions or you will realise what this guy truly did and does. He can fool you, but not me, 8:25 and others. Always happy to see someone to help Khmers, but cranky with someone trying to fool Khmers serving their own purposes.

Last but not least, he is just another kind of bullshit! Relying on him would be way too long.

To 12:07PM!

Oh yes I did! Do you want to Mr. Son Chhay to play the role of Hun Sen?

If Mr. Son Chhay was the Cambodian Prime Minister like right now and no Cambodian monk would be deported to Vietname in the first place and there wouldn't be any arguments right now! But the fact is it is AH HUN SEN Vietcong slave mother fucker the so called Cambodian Prime Mate Monkey Dictator who started this whole fucken mess of Cambodian people deportation to Vietname to be judged and to be jailed in Vietname!

Mr. Son Chhay has done a good job so far and it is time for AH HUN SEN Vietcong slave mother fucker to follow his lead! I don't rely on Mr. Son Chhay to go around picking up all the fucken pieces and the fucken messes created by AH HUN SEN Vietcong slave mother fucker anyway because Mr. Son Chhay doesn't have all the time in the world to baby sit people!

11:02pm, that is good to hear that you did. Your admiration for Son Chhay is entirely your individual argument. And of course I don't bother myself to counter it because that is what you have believed in him.

To me, no way Jose! I stick to mine as I see him differently. Imagination if Son Chhay were Cambo PM is just another disaster for Cambodia. I am neither pro Hun Sen nor CPP, but becoming a good PM for a nation needs a leadership which Son Chhay doesn't have. The case of Tin Sakhorn is about the opportunity for opportunist. I wish if I could admire him like you, but I can't.

I assume that you are really piss off with the ruler, and you are right about Hun Sen. But saying with emotion of hatred and animosity can lead to misjudgement.

Son Chhay still doesn't make sense to me.

You are so pathetic! Too optimistic to Son Chhay, that is about limitation of brain power, dude.
