PHNOM PENH, Cambodia: Cambodia's prime minister compared Kenya's bloody rioting to the "killing fields," continuing a scathing attack Thursday against a Kenyan-born U.N. envoy who criticized the Southeast Asian nation's human rights record.
Prime Minister Hun Sen said Cambodia's troubles were nothing compared to the situation in Kenya, where an estimated 300 people have been killed in rioting since the African nation's highly contested Dec. 27 presidential election.
"There is killing and bloody violence there. Kenya is almost becoming a killing field," Hun Sen said, using the term synonymous with the Khmer Rouge's genocidal reign of Cambodia in the 1970s which led to some 1.7 million deaths.
Hun Sen has persistently denounced Yash Ghai, the U.N. special envoy for human rights in Cambodia, since the envoy's Dec. 1-10 visit to the country.
Ghai criticized the government's alleged rights violations and called the judiciary "a perversity." He predicted that Cambodians were eventually "going to rise" against the government.
"All the points he raised in his human rights reports about Cambodia are now happening in his own country," Hun Sen said.
Hun Sen, who has had a prickly relationship with U.N. envoys, has vowed to never meet Ghai. Hun Sen shunned the Kenyan constitutional lawyer during his recent trip.

Hun Sen needs to shut up and keep his mouth closed. Who is he to compare Kenya's rioting to Cambodia's "killing fields"?...both are all entirely contextually different!
300 compared to 1.5-2 million dead and there are many other differences as well.
Hun Sen is also a really big hypocrite for stating such words against Kenya. Hello..Phnom Penh 1997???!!! Not just that, Hun Sen and his band of thugs still intimidate and commit violence towards its Cambodian citizens to this day.
Seriously, Hun Sen needs to get over Yash Ghai's criticism and focus on why Mr. Ghai made those statements about Cambodia's government and its human rights issues in the first place.
It is really a shameful for us to have this TMIL hun sen to lead.
Ah Hun Xen in Vietnamese Youn language ( Hun Yang Yap)
It´s shameful to compare Kenya`s rioting to Cambodia`s "killing fields". In Kenya, it has two people group, or Cambodia has the same people group too? In fact, the killing fields is worst than in Kenya and the causes is also the very deffitence.
When Mr. Lepreught,Swedish, Ghai's predecessior for UN human rigths envoy for Cambodia criticized hun sen government, Hun Sen blasted him for coming here for well-paid,do little job. He couldn't blame SWEDEN's human rights because Swenden's record on human right ranks one of the best in the world even better than America.
DAMN IF YOU DO and DAMN IF YOU DON'T.
Hun Sen our best! He bring us every thing we never have even in the time of JVM7!
Do we have 2 million tourists and electricty then in 1200?
Sometimes I feel so embarrassed to be Cambodian because of Hun Sen. Things he says makes all Cambodian seem as if we're so entirely closed-minded, backwards and ignorant of the facts. It really sucks big time to have someone like Hun Sen represent us in the world stage!
Hun Sen's comments reflects badly upon us. The guy doesn't know what the hell he's saying sometimes. Ever listen to his speeches? HI speeches are so informal and very colloquial. He speaks like something crossed between a peasant and a mafia thug. Hearing his speeches gives me the shivers each time.
Fuck You Ah Hun Sen Khvak Cham Kout , talking LoP Lop like Khmer Rouge shit.
Correction on 2:28 - Mr. Lepreught, the predessor of Prof. Gai, is Austris.
What occurred in Kenya, could very well transpire in Cambodia.
Khmer forever! Yuon out of Cambodia!
