Mam Sonando, the director of the Beehive radio station, came up with the idea of a political round table discussion to be held at the office of his radio station. The Kampuchea Thmei newspaper quoted Mam Sonando as saying that this round table is meant to provide the opportunity for 3 major political parties – SRP, HRP and NRP – to hold discussions with the public. Mam Sonando told the Kampuchea Thmei that the main reason he came up with this round table idea, because in the past, politicians always made promises to the voters, but after they got into power, they never respect their promises. This means that they just talk for the sake of talking, and they cheat the voters. Therefore, these parties should participate in the round table to explain their positions if they really boast of being democratic parties. Mam Sonando said that he sent letters to the 3 political parties already, and the NRP agreed to participate on 20 February, the HRP of 25 February, but the SRP did not provide a reply yet.

Agree to 6.04m

For democracy, selection of party or leader based on quality and merit(not to mention about other quality) is very important.

Naranarith has had 2 chances, but he messed them up,strategically and personally. He has got nothing for cambodians to look for in leading. Please stop mentioning about him. Two parties can certainly look at same ground, i can understand why MP rainsy is cautious about that, not just because being arrogant, nor stubborn.

Good luck Mr MAM.

Very wise move Mr. Mam - Political round table discussion or selling political agendas and policies for this up-coming election on air and broadcast to people from all walks of life country wide.

There will be good and bad news for this round table talks.

1st the good news:

a] people will have the opportunity to know and understand the political agendas, policies and plans from each individual political party would offer and want to do should they will win seat[s] in NA

b] people would have the opportunity to understand in depth of the charisma, leadership skill, vision of the astute leader who emerge out from this round table talk.

c] would help people to make their mind on who shall their vote will go to.

The bad news:

a] most people are wary with Ranarridth leadership skill and his performance as seen in the past 2 elections [1998 & 2003] and in government as junior partner. Not all the people but a minority [his supporters] would like to hear his agendas, policies and plans.

To RNP, this is a chance for the party to launch the new fresh look of RNP.

To people who are wary of his poor performances and leadership skill, will be bitterly unhappy about the whole arrangement [round table talk] - why bring a political failure leader back in the talk.

2] don' think for any munite of the day that each individual political party leader would say and inform all but rather tight lip about their trump card to public for the best interest of their party, their policy or simply not wanting to leak information out to other political party.

3] don't think they [3 political party leader] can or feel comfortable to sit down and discuss their policy and platform openly without having not raising doubts in the back of their mind that no one would be free from attacking each other during the campaign [may not be verbal personal attack but on each individual policy and platform and plans].

These issues mentioned above did happen in the past.

We all should find the common ground to stand, so that we can stand firm together as one. It is a good opportunity for these parties to tell the people, especially, their supporters that they are not the only, who want democracy in Cambodia. We hope that SRP would give a positive response to the radio station director.
