The Khmer Anti-Poverty Party, a new political party that not many know its name, held its first congress in Phnom Penh in the morning of 29 March 2008. Daran Kravanh, the party president is a Cambodian-American citizen. He said that Cambodians have suffered poverty for too long, therefore, Cambodians should receive a new life through real US-like democracy so that they may lead a prosperous life. Daran Kravanh said that the current Cambodian society suffers all kinds of poverty: poverty from joblessness, poverty from lack of justice, poverty from their inability to decide their own destiny. He told reporters that if his party wins the election to lead the country, he will add 4 more ministries to serve the people: the ministry of social welfare to provide money to people to buy food and to provide health insurance, the anti-corruption ministry, the ministry for handicap people, and the ministry of labor. He said that his party would win the election if the National Election Committee (NEC) works properly and fairly, however, he said that he had no confidence that the NEC could do it.

God! doen't he know that the health system in Cambodia is for free? that what we need is to improve the system ( raise salary to the workers, so they would not need to extorted money from the sick).
He want to buy American insurance than any Cambodian sick can go to USA for treatment? I VOTE FOR YOU MR. CRAVAN, but if you lie you beter to fly out fast like Mr. Even, the church guy that promise to cure blindness!

I think cambodia already have Labor department? is 'nt it?

Anonymous said...

we don't need that many ministries. The ministry of labor I think exists already. We should actually decommission some ministries created by the current government to accommodate its men. The ministry of anti-corruption sounds good. But the prospect is that this ministry may be the most corrupt.

Yes, we announce you that we are quickly going to create the homosexuals, gay, and lesbians's political party in cambodia.

Too many parties. Khmer people need to get along and join one of the parties, instead of creating more parties.

We have the pleasure to announce you that we are going to create a Khmer political party which has for name the party "anti-human rights and anti-democracy".

We have the right ! why not?

Aren't we in democracy and political pluralism?

Anonymous said...

Guys, whatever happened to the idea of "united democracy movement," is it still on of off?

Anonymous said...

We are for the creation of a political party :" for the military junta in the power " ,because it is the only effective government to bring to a successful reforms in Cambodia.

another opportunist! Damn Khmer Americans thinking they have all the solutions to Cambodia's problem!

Anyway----
to solve the problem of the same party getting re-elected, why not have Khmers from abroad vote (like what they did in Iraq).

Anonymous said...

It's a good idea, but right now we are still short money (2.5 millions) for the election. Voting is not free. It cost anywhere from 3-5 usd per head. Now if you talk about allowing Khmer abroad to vote, we are looking at at least another 40 millions Khmers, and that will roughly cost 200 millions dollars more. Do you got any cashes to spare?

This party is a fucking joke. It will look to foreigners that Khmers are complete dummies. What a joke - to create 4 more ministries?

To ignorant people,
I addressed the importance of those people who have always badmouth about Daran Kravanh, you have destroyed the hope for a better lives for those who live in Cambodia. Shame on you for destroying their dreams and hopes. Daran only serves to help the people of Cambodia! We don't want history to repeat itself just like the holocaust in Cambodia in 1975. For those people who does have ability to help and support to rebuild the nation, don't judge or criticize someone when you are not in his/her shoes. Before you judge or defame someone, ask yourself what can you do to help the people of Cambodia? If you can't do anything to help, don't even bother to criticize because that would make you a fucking hypocrite. Hating doesn't help, it only causes more chaos. Before you judge or degrade someone, learn more about the person and the issues. Only ignorant people would judge someone without any knowledge about the circumstances in Cambodia. So don't hate, just support what is righteous and good for the country.

To all my khmer people,
khmer from america do not have all the solutions but we have heart, passion, and our willingness to bring democracy to our people. khmer in america has got through the hardship of living under communism, and now living under a democratic system of United States, so we feel we can share this with our people.
i checked out mr. daran's website and i believe his platform can be implemented in srok khmer.

please visit his site and provide constructive critism rather than ignorant comments. we all khmer--- one love--the love for our country---Srok Khmer!!

Yes, "The United Democratic Movement" is still on to trigger political leaders’ mind to find ways to get into power.

With that many political parties in the ballots, I bet the CPP will win the majority and Cambodia remains the same with the same gangs of the same system and the poor Khmer people still suffer

The more political parties on the Ballots, the weaker their leaders are.

They are not able to work together to unite the qualified persons to do the jobs. Their ego and greed for the title as Prime Minister Candidate stand in the way for collaboration.

In turn, they point fingers to others blame them of dividing parties, etc.

My suggestions: The key to collaboration is to keep the Prime Minister Candidate open for voting among Parties involved. The parties’ Leaders may chose a Ministry or a political appointee position of his/her expertise.
