Chea Mony, President of the Free Trade Union of Workers in the Kingdom of Cambodia (FTUWKC), who threatened to organize a garment workers’ strike, hopes that the negotiation for a salary raise held at the beginning of this week will be successful. He told RFA that he held this hope because there are positive signs, such as 15 factories agreed to increase the monthly salary by $5 even before he announced the strike. Secondly, Prime minister Hun Sen is paying attention to the workers’ $5 monthly salary increase request made the FTUWKC, and he called in 4 ministries involved to discuss this salary raise request. Nevertheless, Chea Mony threatened that the strike will go on if the negotiation for salary raise will not be successful.
