The publisher of an opposition-aligned newspaper has joined ranks with a growing number of people moving to the ruling Cambodian People's Party ahead of national elections in July.
Thach Keth, publisher of the Sam Rainsy Party-affiliated Sralanh Khmer, or Love Khmer, newspaper, said Monday he was throwing his support behind the ruling party.
Thach Keth confirmed Monday he joined the CPP March 13, the day after he resigned from the Sam Rainsy Party.
He would spend his own "pocket money" to publish the newspaper "to serve the CPP," he said.
Boay Roeuy, editor in chief of the paper, said he would leave it, even though Thach Keth had asked him to stay. He said he was disappointed this happened at a time when the newspaper market is growing.
Kong Koam, vice president of the Sam Rainsy Party, said Monday he was not worried about the move. The newspaper would be known as a CPP paper, he said, and would not affect the popularity of the opposition.
The paper was less popular among SRP supporters than Moneaksekar Khmer, or Khmer Conscience, he said.
In another defection Monday, the vice president of the Ratanakkiri branch of the opposition party, Phal Tha, also moved to CPP. He arrived in Phnom Penh Monday to resign from the opposition and join the Cambodian People's Party.

it is doing a disservice to the victims of the genodical KR if the court can not go on because of funds issues. please, i hope the court is being realistic with the money issue as the real purpose is to bring justice to the cambodian people who perished injustice under the KR rule. i hope they will get their priority straight because otherwise it wouldn't be fair to the millions of victims under the KR atrocity in cambodia. thank you!

True because it is a waste of vote to give it to loser, better to give it a new party if you don't want to give it to the coolest people party (CPP).
The Sralanh Khmer defection only looks good for publicity but in reality it will not affect the SRP. Grassroots supports are more important. Sralanh Khmer readership will decrease significantly when the paper take a pro-CPP stance. It will only exist in name but nobody will read it. Look at Wat Phnom Newspaper and other newpapers. They have all gone into oblivion after defected to the CPP. SRP still has many good newspapers to support it.
It is the CPP's propeganda to divide not unite the people of Cambodia and other political parties for their own gain before the election. They are the biggest party, yet their actions are not. This is not the kind of democracy we want to see happening in Cambodia and years to come.

The Sam Rainsy defectors enjoy all the milk and honey from the CPP and for dirt poor Cambodian people is something that need to be left behind by the defectors because to associate with the poor can bring real shame...and I just found out that no rich Cambodian people and corrupted Cambodian leaders want to be associated with dirt poor Cambodian people!
I was surprised that some of these Sam Rainsy defectors even said that they joined the Sam Rainsy Party for 10 years and they are going nowhere and still poor! So tell me did AH HUN SEN deny the defectors to become rich or Did Sam Rainsy denies the defectors to become rich? Well!
AH HUN SEN dictatorship system provided that only a few selected people to become rich as long they work and support him. But the Sam Rainsy democratic system demand that all Cambodian people to participate to become rich base on individual ambition! That is why Sam Rainsy is pushing for anti-corruption law, pushing for the Cambodian constitution as the law of the land, pushing for independent court system, pushing for independent military from joining the political group...
Cambodia is being too easy on AH HUN SEN because AH HUN SEN know that for a dictator like him to exist in Cambodia and Cambodian central government must remain weak as possible otherwise a dictator like him wouldn't stand a chance!
