At 2:20am on 8 April 08, a full police force filling 10 cars arrived at Chau Laing commune, Svay Tong district, Moat Chrouk (renamed An Giang) and started to discharge gun shots to scare off the villages who huddled around to protect Mr. Chau Hen.
Half a dozen Khmer Krom people were injured when gunshots hit them directly. Amongst the injured was Mr. Chau Hen’s wife, Mrs. Neang Phon and nephews who were shot in the leg.
In addition at least two victims received bleeding head wounds after police stabbed them.
Smoke gas of unknown substance was also thrown at the house rending the Mr. Chau Hen’s children unconscious.
Mr. Chau Hen was amongst a large group of Khmer Krom farmers gathering to demand Vietnamese authorities why they burnt down an important bridge in which they used to cross to their rice field.
He also spoke to Radio Free Asia in the Khmer program (7 April 2008) describing his disappointment at failure of the government to resolve the confiscated lands.
Amongst the chaos and confusion, Mr. Chau Hen and Mr. Chau Ut, another Khmer Krom farmer has disappeared without a trace.
Mr. Chau Ut’s house and family was also a targeted with police raiding the house, smashing the windows seeking documents.
In an RFA interview on (9 April 2008), Mrs. Neang Phon also added that the victims of the shooting her were refused medical aid.
“..Chau Hen and Ut have disappeared, we do not know where they are...Please help!” pleads Mrs. Neang Phon in her interview with RFA Asia.
Villages fear that Chau Hen and Chau Ut has since been arrested and taken into undisclosed location by Vietnamese authorities.

Khmer Krom is a real problem in which every cambodian should share their effort to help our Khmer Krom people from suffering under the Vietnam invaders. We should work closely with China for our own benefit to free our land from Vietnamese invasion. China has been our neighbour since our existnace. Therefore they knew very well where were our boundaries. We can talk for a whole year to explain Khmer Krom to western countries to understand our Khmer Krom, but we can tell China only one hour, they would know where we were. That is why, I keep promoting for a close relationship with China. For the sack of Tibet, we will loose all our lands such as Koh Tral and Khmer Krom.
