Prime minister Hun Sen announced that he will eliminate the use of the word “Preah Ang Mchas” (Prince/Princess) from the official government use. In a speech he gave on Monday to about 7,000 factory workers, and for the second time in a week, Hun Sen attacked the use of the royal language. Hun Sen said that he will stop using the word “Preah Ang Mchas” both at the Council of Ministers and at the National Assembly. On 22 April, Hun Sen declared that he will raise the issue of toning down the use of the royal language at the National Assembly and the Senate. Lu Laysreng, the minister of Rural Development and Funcinpec vice-president No. 1, said that the ban of the use of the word “Preah Ang Mchas” in the government is not proper for his party. He said that if one person does not want to use this word, others still want to use it. In the past few years, Hun Sen made several attempts to set up a law preventing royal family members from being involved in politics, and if they still want to be involved in politics, they must abandon their royal prerogatives.

I think this is the first step to abolishing the monarchy. I thin Hun Sen is testing the water. I also think that there is a possiblity that some sort of political instability might occur if the monarchy is abolished.
I am not supporting Hun Sen at all but I support his proposal for a better Cambodian in removing social classes. If royal member cannot prove themselves to be a good role model of highest moral of citizen, he or she will not different from any human specie. They can be any idiot too. Areak Prey

Parliament is where the laws are ratified.Facts relevant to private, communal, social or cultural,environmental circumstances have to be adhered to for social progresses.Tradition changed accordingly,due to adoptation and adaptation.
However I suggest strongly that our social values and quality is based on ETHICS.
ETHICS should be in high school curriculum. Bio Ethics should also a compulsory in tertiary education

Forgive me for insignificantly saying this, even though I am unashamedly illiterate..
I'm honestly careless, if Hun SenVarman hasn't desirably wanted to use the tradtional royal language, therefore he can not aggressively and forcefully eradicate it, because he is not the one who initially created Khmer language!

You are absolutely right, if you are evidently talking about an illiterate person in Srok Khmer who is barely or not completely knew how to read and write. On the contrary, in America the nation at risk, an illiterat person has only a middle school education.

i'm sure mr. hun sen did not act alone. i agree as well and i'm sure all parliamentarians agreed as well because look, it is interfering with their work when you have to address some politician as "prince or princess". these royalty shouldn't be in active politics in the first place. just look at thai royalty, for example, the reason their king and royal family lasted for 60 years or more was because they knew not to get involved in active politics; can't say the same for khmer royalty. so, that's the difference between the prosperous thailand and the untrained cambodia? i hope that will change as cambodia is moving forward and learning from past mistakes. thank you and god bless cambodia.
