The SRP which has been quiet in leading demonstration against the government lately, is starting to be more active on this issue and it plans to organize a non-violent mass demonstration on 06 April. The 24 SRP MPs issued a call on Tuesday, asking the Cambodian people to join in a non-violent mass demonstration to demand that the government lower the price of goods or increase the salary of civil servants and workers commensurate to the sharp increase of the price of goods. In its call, the SRP made a 5-point demand, the most important of which is the lowering of the gasoline tax from 1,200 riels ($0.30) per liter to 500 riels, and the lowering of the profit margin of gasoline distributor from 700 riels to 400 riels per liter. The SRP second demand is for the government to end the monopolies granted to a number cunning merchants and dishonest companies that are increasing the price of goods in any way they please. Furthermore, the SRP also demanded for a proper management of the economy and a proper printing of the riel currency.
