Sources from the National Election Committee (NEC) said that, at the end of the dateline on the 12th of May, 12 political parties have lodged their applications to participate in the upcoming election to be held on the 27th of July.
Mr Mao Sophearith, member of the NEC, said in press conference that 12 parties have their applications either being processed or have been officially registered.
The 12 parties are:
Among the 12 parties that have lodged their applications, only 3 parties have their applications officially approved, ie. The Cambodian People’s Party, the Norodom Ranariddh Party and the Hang Dara Democratic Movement Party. The Khmer Popular Society Party’s registration application has been rejected due to non-compliance with the NEC rules. And the applications of 8 other parties are still under considerations.
It must be noted that the number of political parties registered to participate in the election has dwindled since the first general election in 1993 when many political parties have participated in the election. In 1998, there were 39 political parties that have registered to participate in the election. In 2003, the numbers have dropped to 23 parties, and in the upcoming election to be held on 27th July 2008, only 12 parties have lodged applications to participate.

In the 12 parties, How many parties are under supervision of Hanoi?
it's a joke, the 11 fools crowd-in to help painting a better face for CPP so the world looks at it as a pure pluralism system while the cpp hun sen cheats directly and indirectly to win the election every term and so on...CPP laughs his ass off... the world don't have to wait for the results, it's very obvious CPP is the Winner and will have ARUN'and Keo P Rasmey funcipec the big time ass kisser joint the coalition and the dummy SRP can just be a lifetime opposition just like Hun Sen said before!!!. Bookmark my comments here and verify with the set-up fake election....guarantee 120 percent!!!!

Dear 2:18 AM;
It is really negative to ask and think that among registered 12 parties are under the supervision of Hanoi. Do you really suggest that any polical party currently contest in the election is working for Hanoi.

Dear 3:22 AM;
Personally will book mark your comment.
Please don't suggest to people not going out in mass to cast their vote because you felt it was a fake election.

Only tw o parties will have serious contest: the CPP and SRP.
Be real. The HRP and Ranaridh, Cpig are just a waste of votes and time.
I don't believe other parties are Hanoi stooges, except the CPP. But after the election, there might be some opportunistic parties that might join the CPP to seek personal fortunes. Like what was said here I also believe that the CPP will win, the election results have already been predetermined- the CPP will win around 81 seats as predicted by Chea Sim and Hun Sen. The CPP will win through direct or indirect cheating- cheat in vote counting etc.
Two sides of the vote :
Traitor (ah Hun Sen youn servant)
or
Patriot (H.E. Sam Rainsy khmer servant)
Khmer farmer
Where's the Kanakpak Sangkum Khmer Yum from Long Beach going? I haven't seen it on the list. Just disappears?
The SRP should be disqualified for cheating.
