The NRP protested to the National Election Committee (NEC) on Sunday. The latter ordered the NRP to make a correction to its MP candidate list for the city of Phnom Penh, because Noranarith Anandayath, the NRP deputy secretary-general, was not listed on the voters’ list. Since he is not on the voters’ list, his MP candidacy is also invalid according to the NEC rule, and Noranarith Anandayath cannot present himself as a MP candidate. However, Muth Chantha, NRP spokesman, told The Mekong Times that the commune chief of Tuol Tumpoung 2 commune, where Noranarith Anandayath now lives, issued a letter confirming that the latter is registered in the voters’ list. Nevertheless the NRP agreed to make the correction of its candidate list as the NEC requested. However, Muth Chantha said that the NEC rejection of its candidate shows that the commune councils are not paying attention to their work.
