On 13 June, Comfrel issued a report providing the results its preliminary observations, indicating that, at least 39 TV and radio stations in the entire country broadcasted and still continue to broadcast biased information benefiting the ruling CPP party.

In its report about the current preparation to the 2008 general election, Comfrel wrote that the broadcast made by these TV and radio stations does not even respect the professional code of ethics for broadcasting, because all they do is attacking the opposition, and reporting about defectors from various political parties who join the CPP which rules the country during the past 30 years.

Comfrel also indicated that these TV and radio stations never provide the opportunity to other parties to explain about these defection cases.

Comfrel’s report also added that TV and radio broadcasters used threatening tones against voters on several occasions, especially to threat voters not to vote for the opposition party. The following is an example of such threat: “Voting for the SRP is like bringing back the Pol Pot regime.”
