It's a shame to see Thai Democrats interfering and meddling in Cambodia's internal Preah Vihear affair

Thai Democrats to petition World Heritage Committee

BANGKOK, June 29 (TNA) -- Thailand's opposition Democrat Party will directly petition all 21 country members of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee Monday stating its opposition to a Cambodian government plan to unilaterally apply for registration of the historic Preah Vihear temple, the party spokesman said Sunday.

UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, has listed 851 sites in 141 countries as World Heritage sites.

Ong-art Klampaiboon said the party would submit its petition through the UNESCO office here stating the party's stance and the opinions of the Thai people towards the Cambodian plan to apply to list the temple as a World Heritage site.

E-mail messages will also be sent directly to each of the 21 members of the committee urging it to decide the matter based on 'righteousness'.

The Thai opposition party's objection to the planned listing of the ancient temple comes as Phnom Penh plans to apply for the registration of Preah Vihear as a World Heritage site during the UNESCO World Heritage Committee annual meeting beginning July 2 in Quebec.

Emphasising that what the Democrat Party is doing is for the benefit of Thailand and not for its own political gain, Mr. Ong-art said his party stood by five points regarding the temple, which sits on Cambodian soil but can only be easily accessed from Thailand.

These five points include its position that the no-confidence debate against the Thai government, which ended Friday, was is no way meant to affect the warm relations between the two countries, that the Thai government should not carry out any activities which could diminish the country's sovereignty and that it should not have approved Cambodia's new map on the temple in exchange for gains for any one person.

Some Thai press reports have said that former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, ousted in a bloodless coup in September 2006, plans to invest in a resort-style entertainment complex on the Cambodian island of Koh Kong and that somehow the Preah Vihear understanding was a deal to benefit Mr. Thaksin.

Both Thai Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej and Foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama have said what the government had done was for the country's interests as well as maintaining bilateral relations of the two neighbouring countries.

Historically Siam has fought and gained, by means of robbery, a great portion of the former Khmerland, the Khmer Empire. This is an undisputable case. And now, in the Preah Vihear case, the offsprings of those Siamese are calling on the UNESCO to decide the matter based on "RIGHTEOUSNESS". Pointing a loaded gun barrel in their own head and asking that the trigger be pulled.

It's a case of a vicious armed robber petitioning the court of law to judge righteously as he sues a victim that he accidentally dropped a tiny bag of jewelry, which he had robbed, in a bedroom of the victim's home. He must have it back, he claims. The jewelry bag belongs to him, he claims and petitions the court of law to render a judgment on the case based on "RIGHTEOUSNESS".

To me, the Siamese mentality is beyond a cure. They no longer possess a conscience and therefore they cannot differentiate wrong from right. Go to hell Siamese.

If khmer don't want to share the temple, they can democratically hold a referendum to determine to who should own the temple and the surrounding area.

Well, if they Thai wants to play hardball, close the border access from the Thai's side permanently, and build cable cars up the mountain from Cambodia side. In fact, an Indian company is planning to do just that We'll see who will loose the tourists money. Then, we bring the Thai to court over the overlapping sea areas that are rich in oil and gas. I think the Thai people should wake up!

Hole a referendum? Cambodia is not part of Thailand, you stupid asshole. This means nothing to Cambodians. The temple belongs to Cambodia, an independent country. Period. The surrounding areas can be discussed, but not the temple. This what the Thai government teach its citizen regarding Cambodia, and these brainless people believe whatever their government say. You guys are rich and have access to internet. Go and read more about Thais and Khmers. If you can't copy us, please be nice to us.

Thailand is the Khmer Empire and Cambodia is a part of it whether you like it or not.

my gosh, they can't get over the fact that they lost 48 years ago.

Preah vihear is cambodia only, and not meant to be share with thailand.

get over with it and move on, it is rightfully cambodia.

oh my god, it looks like half of their countrymen of thailand are members of the world heritage committee, no wonder they think they can corrupt unesco to try to defer cambodia's proposal of the listing of preah vihear. but, don't worry, cambodia, unesco will uphold the icj decision of 1962 and cambodia's rights as a sovereigned member of nations. and most definitely, thailand illegal, unlawful and criminal intention on cambodia's preah vihear temple won't be allowed by the world community of nations. i have confidence that the rule of laws will prevail despite their criminal thinking of trying to murky up or confused further their own ignorant siem people who in my opinion are living in the dark ages and still harbors the "frog in the well" mentality of the old world. god bless cambodia.

This is a case of the BIGGER man taking advantage of sick kid and exploiting the opportunity. If UNESCO IS TO BE FOOLED BY THAILAND THEN UNESCO IS SETTING A BAD EXAMPLE. AND SURELY IT IS NOT HELP TO PUT AN END TO IT.

" Ong-art Klampaiboon said the party would submit its petition through the UNESCO office here stating the party's stance and the opinions of the Thai people towards the Cambodian plan to apply to list the temple as a World Heritage site"

A question in my nind appeared: Does UNESCO reconize the Thai government or a party of Thailand? if they are good from start, they can win and form a governemt today. But Domocrite lost the election.

I think, we are the khmer people, should be patiently wait and see the stratigy of the Thai Government toward the Cambodian Preah Vihear Temple. And if the Thai government change their mind then, we might have to close the border at the Temple indefinitely.

In my opinion, we should not need to discuss about anythink with Thailand for the listing of the Preah Vihear temple with UNESCO, because the Temple is 100 per cent Cambodian own and has nothing to do with Thailand.

The Thai government as well as the Royal Thai Survey have already confirmed that the Temple is well inside the Cambodian teritory therefore, the Thai opposition must recognise and respect the Cambodian sovereignty and its internal affair.

This quote make me laugh to death....RIGHTEOUSNESS... How stupid are you, the Thai Democrate leader? Do you think you will gain a political point?...You will sink deeper in the Thai political arena as the Unesco's members will not support your illogical claim. They are not stupid, they will respect the international court decision.
Your are very sick, the Thai Democrate leader.

Remember, in the past, we had provided all KaKhmer shelter prior to the resettlement in the third countries. At the time, we could have close the border and refuse to let you people in, but we were generous enough to allow you people in our country.

5:35 you remember the time when your ancestors ass were running from the Chinese? We were generous enough to let you in, had our former kings destroy your little settlers from the tiny bit your confused race would not exist today.

consider your recent mentioned action, a bit of path of karma if you don't give your credit to that action as an action in return of gratitude to the Khmer race.

1:39
If Thailand is the Khmer Empire then you have admit to being under the sovereign authority of the Khmer race. As part of our empire we tell you subordinates to shut the fuck up and start speaking Khmer again.

Goodness sakes. Make up your mind already. You are Khmer when it is convenience to be Khmer.

Poor thing wants to be part and identify with Khmer now. That okay, let start again then. Start first we get over Preah Vihear, second we change Muay Thai to something suitable, then we revised your whole history to reflect the true Khmer identity :)you like that proposal?

We Khmer propose a joint program to start the Khmerization of your Thai race again.

Do you know what's the RIGHTEOUSNESS mean?
I beileve it's mean: acting or being in accordance with what is just, honorable,And free from GUILT or WRONG.
I believe Thai is not the righteousness people.
The guilt or wrong doing from beginning of time that their ancestors done from the past.
*Eyes to see
*Ears to hear
*brain to think
What's the righteousness people think in the whole world ???????

To 4:37pm and all Thai people,
In 1979, my brother cross the border to Thailand just before the UN arrived, and Thai army took all the refugee back into Cambodia with the gun point, and chased them like animals into the land full of mine. This is you call it a generous acts of Thai government toward us?

And in 1981 I crossed the border into Thailand for a KAO I DANG refugee camp, I was very lucky to be alive, others were shot to dead around the camp by Thai army. Your government very cruel.
Now I am living happily in Australia.

1:42 AM,

Good point. I also remember that too. The Thai was and is very inhumane. They said they are more advance or educated thean Khmer but when talking about refugee they don't have that kind of generousity toward refugees. They practically claim that they are Southeast Asia most civilize but in reality they are not. I think they are very fool and unjust toward their claims. Like 2:19 AM said "what goes around comes around! god bless cambodia."

I think Khmer will win and will slowly embrace our culture, our people that scatters around the former back. I've done alot of research that at least we Khmer have 50 millions of them scatter throughout. We will rule again. Now seems that we are going that way. And the Thai is not happy to see Khmer getting strong.

Right now we could be the only one rich country in Southeast Asia cause of oil discover. Now the Thai is very jeolous. Khmer will win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
