Original report from Phnom Penh
05 June 2008
Former Khmer Rouge leader Khieu Samphan was moved from a Phnom Penh hospital to his holding cell at the tribunal Thursday afternoon, officials said.
"He is now back in the detention facility," tribunal spokesman Peter Foster said. "He has been released from the hospital. Clearly, at the hospital, they determined that he was stable and healthy enough to return to the detention facility."
A tribunal statement said he was brought from the hospital at 3:30 pm Thursday, following observation from specialists.
Khieu Samphan's lawyers were quoted in media reports this week saying his condition was worsening, following his admittance to Calmette hospital May 22.
But Khieu Samphan's wife, So Socheat, said earlier Thursday he had improved "gradually" since his admission for high blood pressure.
Lawyer Sy Bory said earlier Thursday that even if his client's condition improved, he should not be immediately sent back to detention.
Khieu Samphan, who was the nominal head of the regime, faces charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Good to hear that his health is better and back to detention
This idiot Khmiv Samphann had not only shamed his ancestors and his descendents, his teachers and all his schools in Cambodia and in France but had shamed his nation and all Cambodians, for all his stupid government and his leadership. Areak Prey
You are correct that Ah Derachhan khiev Samphann has shamed everyone around him.
It would be much better to detain these criminals, khiev samphan, ieng sary and his bitch, nuon chea and Duch at TUOL SLENG so they can enjoy watching all the skull there. Those poor skulls are the fruit of their labor. And don't forget to take their accomplice (sihanouk) along .He should not get away with it.
as much as we all love to hate them all, the real stupid mistake these former KR leadership did was that they ignored the plight of the killing spree or killing fields that went on all across cambodia at the time of their power. their crazy policy did allow this kind of injustice for their own people to go on pretending to ignore or go unnotice by the top echalon. that's not right! i think if and only if their leadership strictly forbid the killing and starving of their own cambodian people, then, who knows, they would have been totally accepted by not only the cambodian people, but the entire world community as well. but no!!! they chose to ignore the suffering and killings of their own people and really encouraged or allowed that kind of injustice to go on unnotice or pretend to turn blinded eyes. that was really their stupid, idiot policy of their stone age revolutionary ideology. i wonder what were they thinking? that's really is the "frog in the well" kind of narrow-minded thinking which is stupid, to say the least! now look what happened to cambodia, a country that can take forever to put back on track like a giant jigsaw puzzle of the 16th century buddha statue at the baphoun temple at angkor archaeological park. however, i hope for the best for cambodia. god bless cambodia.
