A five-year-old boy died and three others were sickened in a possible case of food poisoning in Preah Vihear province, health officials said Friday.
Thouern Tiep, 5, died after he was taken to the commune health center with two brothers and an aunt Thursday afternoon, officials said.
The four had eaten noodles and candy together at a small shop in Sa Em village, Kantout commune, Choam Khsan district, near the Thai border.
None of the goods that were eaten came from Thailand, said Sap Bunthouern, Kantout's second deputy commune chief.
Brothers Youert Em, 4, and Youert Yim, 8, and the aunt, Ron Moa, 13, left the health center and returned to their homes late Thursday, Sap Bunthouern said.
Phann Ron, the 49-year-old grandfather of the deceased, said his grandson had played in the dirt before Ron Moa gave the children money for noodles and candy.
Two hours later, they all fell ill, he said.
Their faces took on a purple hue, and they were all taken to a traditional healer for coining.
The treatment appeared not to work, so the family called the health center to take them for further treatment.
By then it was too late, Phann Ron said. Thouern Tiep died three hours later.
Preah Vihear Health Director Kouy Bun Thany said authorities took samples of the noodles and candy, as well as blood of the three living patients, for laboratory tests in Phnom Penh.

cambodia needs a strong FBI help with this kind of political killing of innocent people. it is very questionable everytime something like this is happening all across cambodia. i think it is due to lack of proper law enforcement like the have in the USA for example. just to demonstrate the case, in the USA, any type of case that involved death of anyone is a serious crime and warrant thorough investigation by all mean, and sooner or later the killer or the culprit will be caught and punish to the fullest extent of law allowed. and cambodia needs the USA help in this area a lot so that justice can be serve for the cambodian people. thank you and god bless cambodia.

Khmer GV'T should have to pay attention on this case seriously, the Cambodian GV'T should test the Siamese's food product along Siamese border, especially in Preh Vihear Province. It's happen before whenever the hot spot with Siamese, soon or later the misterious POISONING occure in Cambodian side, it could be perriled to human & animals lives.
Ex: In 1976-77(KR, period), the area where Khmer ROUGE soldier attack Siamese Village, after a whild the cows and the Water buffalos Khmer villagers got poisoning instance death by hundreds in the field forest after they eat full of graces.(Phum Koo,uoddorm..). This time it could be repeatation. Another hand Khmer don't have to buy anything is Siamses's producted.
