Call for boycott of Thai products

Translated from Khmer by Socheata

Following a quiet period, the call to boycott Thai products is starting again. This time, the messages are distributed through SMS mobile phones, and through anonymous distribution of leaflets. The Rasmei Kampuchea reported that on 22 July, leaflets were dropped at two Phnom Penh markets: Phsar Thmei and Phsar Chhbar Ampov. The content of the leaflets calls on Cambodians to stop using, importing, selling or buying all Thai products. No groups have claimed the responsibility for these distributions. Numerous Thai products are sold in Cambodia, and numerous Cambodians are living overseas. If Cambodians boycott Thai products as called, large number of Thai companies will lose their business in Cambodia. The majority of goods used in Cambodia, including food, construction materials, etc… are imported from Thailand.

Are the Khmer understand the repercussion? It's cataclysmic!

Further, we assure you that in the not-too-distant future you'll receive equal or greater retaliatory measures to counteract Khmer's ignorance.

I don't care where the products are made in. If it is good and not too expensive, I will use it. Cos, I hate the way we are worsen our continental. We might need to import much from other countries in the future. It's just marketing.

To Thalong, University of Bangkok,1:59 P.M:

I think you should ask yourself how many way to deal the confliction of two country?
Have you studied the economics in your university (Bangkok University) or you study other major? You should know this way is most popular in the civilized country to presure other country follow their mind or their policy such as Chiness people boycotte the Frence product during the France support the Tibetan movement in China, after they boycotted, The France has changed their supporting for Tibetan, and American people boycotted the Frence product during The France has protested the US's incursion in Iraq and so on.

So we use this best way to presure Thai Government to withdraw their soldier from Cambodia.

Don't worry man!! Cambodia can make bussiness with other country such as China, Viet nam, Korea and Japan and Singapor etc because Cambodia is a imported country and our exported product is not Thailand, our textile industry is exported to EU and USA and Canada. So the inflation will happen at the first amoung 1 or 2 month but later on the inflation will drop down...Anyway this way make your country will be more painful because your country need the market, if does not have market where you sell your product???
I think you might never forget the 2003 event, why Thai try to caldown with Cambodia after their embassy was burned at 30th Jan. 2003 in Phnom Penh? because of their economy in Cambodia.

2:50 PM..what would the Thais do to retaliate? Stop Bangkok Airlines and Thai Airlines to fly to Cambodia? Stop gambling in Cambodia? Stop buying rich from Cambodia? Stop investing in Cambodia?

Do you think that tourists would stop coming to Cambodia without the your airlines? They can go to Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam. If all the ThaiCom is out there would be less competition locally. We can buy products from China and others with cheaper price.

In the end, both sides with loose. Cambodia is used to it. But, the Thais? Thais-Chinese will pressure its government if they loose more money. Do you think your monkey King would spend money to compensate their business?
