PHNOM PENH (AFP) — About 300 supporters of Cambodia's main opposition party rallied in Phnom Penh on Wednesday to protest the results of the weekend election and to demand a re-run of the poll.
Prime Minister Hun Sen's ruling Cambodian People's Party has claimed victory in the Sunday poll, saying it captured at least 90 of the 123 seats in parliament, giving it more than a two-thirds majority.
"We cannot accept the results of the election. Please cancel the results of the election and hold a re-vote," opposition leader Sam Rainsy told the crowd gathered inside his party headquarters in the capital.
Sam Rainsy has estimated that one million out of 8.1 million registered voters were cut from the rolls, although European Union election observers have pegged that figure at 50,000.
"It is very unjust," Sam Rainsy said to the cheering crowds, adding that he will file complaints against National Election Committee (NEC) officials.
Dozens of police were deployed along the streets near Sam Rainsy Party headquarters to prevent a public demonstration. The party's deputy secretary general Mu Sochua stood at the entrance, shouting over a loudhailer that the election was "not free and unfair" and urging people to join the rally inside.
NEC secretary general Tep Nytha denied the opposition allegation that one million people had been denied a vote and said there was no law that permitted a re-run of the entire election.
"The case that one million people could not vote because their names had been disappeared from voting lists is not correct," he told AFP.
International monitors said Tuesday the election was flawed and did not meet key standards despite improvements in electoral processes.

There are big psychologist probles with all Cambodian politicians eoseically this guy.
He does not accept the reality that he lose
He does not accept the reality that he just use democracy as the way to power
He does not acept that he lie the people
He does not accept the fact that the coruption is the cambodian mentality, which applied to all including hiself.
He does not acept the reality that he is htirsty for power
It is quite difficult to accept the defeat, particularly if the competition was intimidated and cheated, even death threan. If you're a human, you wouldn't call this fair; this is not the fairness every citizens has anticipated.
The truth of the matter is that the voice of people have been disfranchised and silenced.
There is no fair and justice in this world. All non-ruling parties have their own structural weakness. If they really love democracy they could have untie with each other firmly.
In stead they commpete with each other. They insult with each other.
It mean they will accept ther eality only they win no matter in what condition.
That is the mentality of the nation sufer long history of conflict and invation
Power fir them is the way to go
They will compete to death to get the power
Power is the way to survive.
I am sure even these guys got elected just are just thirst for power in hte same way cpp did
They are just bastard
they not want to heal the conflict
heal the gohost in the cambodian mentality
From now on,the Cambodian people will have lived in starvation for 5 more years because Samdech Hun Sen automatically won the election in which the NEC assisted him to steal the vote and moved the names of the people they believe to vote S.E Sam Rainsy.
I think we don't have any choice, but wait for 5 more years, and please let Samdech Hun Sen and his graft group lead the new government for a while.Next term, you, oppositions, must learn this bad lesson.
300 supporters want what? hahaha, LOL, hahaha ....
Maybe we can just credited the 300 votes to Ah Scam Rainxy and done with it, fair?
This is not a close result. It's a landslide result. Stop wasting time. Go back to work for the country!
SRP gets ashamed again after one of his three friends decided to married richest man, CPP.
CPP decided to marry extremely poor lady FUNCINPEC after CPP recognized that his wife was wooed by opposition group, CTN reported today.
CPP claimed landslide victory in last weeken election. CPP granted at least 90 of 123 seats, CPP claimed. FUNCINPEC granted two seats at national assembly whle this party won majority in 1993 election.
SRP got 27 and his alliance HRP obtained 3 and NRP has 2.
Cambodia is facing the stiff reality.
There are three faces to this election. Fraud, corruption, and undemocratic proceedings.
Fraud and corruption because the opposition parties were basically forced out of the race by having potential voter names "disappear" from the registry.
What if this happened in the west? Take the current election in the US. If they lost voters during the November Election, you'd think Obama and McCain would sit idly by?
SRP and the opposition need to raise their voices, fight the corruption.
Hun Sen has had over 20 years to "improve" the country. And so far he's only letting Cambodia down by having inflation, massive foreign takeovers, and pro Youn policies over run the place.
What can I say this is a built-in-system of corruption. This is what everyone expected.
Theory doesn't count. Fact of the matter is people voted without any gun pointing at them. They have spoken, and now it is time to go back to work.
I can see that it is hard to revoke the election result from recent election. I have one argument in which all political parties should take it to discussion.
Cambodia has adopted a system of Proportional representative or another word we call it mixed members proportional system (MMP in NZ). In this system, all voters cannot choose to vote the candidate they like, but they have vote to the party they like. For this reason, in each electorate, no candidate can be directly elected by voters. They are elected by their party. Therefore, Cambodia has made mistake for the past few elections for counting all winning electorate as their winning seats. It is indeed, no electorate as a winning seats. Each party has to share in the house by the combine of their percentage in the election day. Each party must have their candidates ranking from No 1 to No 123. Therefore, from the result I have from Comfrel as follow;
CPP has 58.22% will get 72 seats.
SRP has 21.85% will get 27 seats
HRP has 6.37% will get 8 seats
NRP has 5.60% will get 7 seats
Funcipec has 5.04% will get 7 seats.
Alliance for Dem has 1.27% will get 2 seats.
Why? because Cambodian voters have voted to party vote and didn't voted for candidate at all.
This system is very good to allow small parties to have a chance to voice their concern in the house. It is unfair for an example; in one electorate SRP has 2360 votes and CPP has 2355 votes , HRP has 2300 votes and NRP has 2295 votes, and we say SRP in winning the seats while other are lost. How come CPP+ HRP+NRP =6950 votes become looser and 2360 become winner. That is a flaw system.
If we used this system, we must it proprely to serve the good system create by international electoral academic. In this system, whichever party has 50%+1 will be able to form the government for the first choice. Areak Prey
Did the Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen receive a congratulatory call from the US embassador in Phnom Penh after the ruling party trumpeted their electoral landslide victory?
If not, the election was not fair or free.
Do all the 1 million people he claims is realy his side?
some of my friends did not vote because they move around for work, family business, an others reasons.
Some of them did not even care or have chance to check their names before the election.
The result shows to much difference between CPP and SRP. How many votes SRP need to defeet CPP? (Impossible).
I watch the TV during the compaign, Kem Sokha told that he will receive at least 58 seats. Kem Sokha has known for sure that his new born party can not get that many. However, that just a tatic used to make his supporters and his activists believe that they will have some chance to be parliamenterians or government senior officers, while they are even less educated if based on their speech.
The same tactic has been always used by other parties including SRP.
Why all these politicians have always told a lie even when people could see it clearly?
Hun Sen is not the realy good leader, but he win at this time because of many positive and negative reasons as most of the people know such as spending million USD to compaign, Preh Vihea eventhough the real success came from the King Father, controling the media, reaching the poor at the rurual areas, economic growth (10% at least for the recent years), real estate boom make a lot of people including SRP's activists enjoy with this and scare of lossing their property if SRP win the election and take the land from the reach give to the poor as SRP's compaign.
Please accept the reality and please work harder you will win peacefuly some day. Please stop cheating the people and stop using the poor and less educated people if you realy want to gain more support in the future.
Please don't cause the conflict between the rich and the poor like Pol Pot did.
Please accept the majority.
Go to work and work harder to win some time in the future.
Only Hun Sen and his people involve corruption?
Many SRP's supporters did not go to work but pay their salaries for their boss (Hun Sen's people) in order to keep their name in the government. is this corruption? Yes, but small issue. Corruption should devide between the small and the big, the answer is NO. Why don't we clean ourselve first not to involve such schame?
How much SRP's people representative pay for the party? $30000 to $50000 at least for the compaign. Where this money from and what they expect from the position they receive?
Simple calculation: say $2000 per month salary a parliamentarian receive and save $1000 or less per month. a stingy parliamentarian can save at most of $60000 for five year mandate. Will he/she contribute all the saved money for the party. Indeed Not.
Where SRP's supporters expect?
Work for the state and people, but eating on the family support? I don't think so.
More or less we all involve corruption. Please clean ourselve first and at the means time, please accept the majority, otherwise our people never have peace.
Thanks

We found your comment rather naive and uneducated. Also, we would not surmise or speculate about your educational background; however, we leave it for others to judge you.
Until then -- we suggest that you should hit the library, and stop watching Thai movies.

The people of Cambodia will never achieved PEACE as long as Cambodia still have the de facto prime minister.
"Theory doesn't count. Fact of the matter is people voted without any gun pointing at them. They have spoken, and now it is time to go back to work".

To the above comment,
The democratic election is supposed to be fair.
In deletting the names of opposition supporters from the electoral lists and other illegal means...
I don't understand why you advise people to accept fatally this fraud ?
You are right if you can proved those name was deleted by tempering, 6:20, but in this case, it is accidental. There is no way for the NEC to delete just Opposition supporters' names.
Tell him to become a monk. He'll look better in a monk's robe...LOL.
He's just trying to find excuses for his finance supporters. If you don't have good excuses, they will not fund your party. That is why he's doing all this.
That game that you have to play SRP!
But if we realy want to have real freedome we need to have the fucking Cambodia Royal police and army reforme!
Shit to UN, to leave us in andcuff with the raper!
To comment 7:31
we can prove because one million of people who had voted in the 2003 election couldn't find their name in the list of the 2008 election. Normally NEC keeps the same names in the list of the last election and use it for the next election without changing.
NEC have the right to delete people from the list and write the new list only and only when voters ask them to delete.
If they made such huge mistake, they are incompetent and they should step down from their position. Otherwise they act in complicity with the evil HUN XEN
Dear compatriots, Yuon tactic is difficult to catch
But if our real patriots unite and vote only for Sam Rainsy, We will win the yuon lackey evil.
