Flood of donations for beleaguered Preah Vihear Cambodians

As the Cambodian public’s anger over the Preah Vihear incursions grows, donations for the poorly-equipped Cambodian soldiers currently standing off against the Thai military have turned into a flood.

King Norodom Sihamoni, King Father Norodom Sihanouk and his wife, King Mother Monineath, have now donated supplies for the Cambodian soldiers deployed at Preah Vihear.

The royals yesterday dispatched plastic tents, mosquito nets, blankets and food by road from Phnom Penh.

A Royal Cabinet official, Um Daravuth, said the humanitarian assistance was to help both the military and civilians affected by the current standoff, including monks staying at Keo Sikha Kiri Svarak pagoda, a modern concrete temple usually called by the same name as the ancient mountaintop sanctuary.

Cambodian fare such as rice, dried and canned fish, MSG and soy sauce are among the food supplies, though plastic tents may be the most appreciated item because of recent rains.

Despite their superior knowledge of the terrain, most Cambodians involved in the current standoff are poorly equipped. The soldiers stationed around Keo Sikha Kiri Svarak pagoda, situated at the foot of Preah Vihear Mountain, mostly wear tattered uniforms and flip-flops with no protection from the monsoon squalls. Food is short and water limited.

Aid campaigns have now begun in earnest, led by Moeung Son’s Khmer Civilization Foundation and the CTN Foundation. Bayon TV and Radio has also provided about US$500,000.

Tok Kimsay, director of the CTN Foundation, said Sunday evening that the CTN channel had received cash donations of about 118 million Riel (US$4,440) and US$580, as well as food supplies. The CTN assistance is to be transported to Preah Vihear Temple this morning.

“The money from the Samaritans will buy plastic tents, raincoats, hammocks and water cans, as well as many other foodstuffs,” Tok Kimsay said.

The Preah Vihear Fund run by Soy Sopheap, a CTN reporter, has received about US$80,000, assistance he said would help provide essential supplies for people in the Preah Vihear Temple area. “The humanitarian contribution indicated that Cambodians are patriotic,” he said. “[F]amilies are scrambling to help our brothers in the Preah Vihear temple area.”

That's just it. It proves that the area doesn't belong to Cambodia. If those people have been there since day1. They would not need any donation or help. They would know how to live in that area like the back of their hand.

We don't really care about the intervention of the UN anymore.
We are tired of you siem.

All we need from you is you fire the first shot, we really want you to beat the crap out of us.

If you can.

Most part of Thailand was part of Cambodian territory during the Angkorian era, so there is no doubt that the Preah Vihear temple and the vicinity are belongs to Cambodian.

Yo, my uncles in the US are donating money to the military police standing at Preah Vihear. Do whatever you can to help our growing soldiers there. It is physical help but also mentally too. The soldiers will know and appreciate that Khmer over the world care about them and that will help boost their moral in this stand off against Thai invaders. Khmer help Khmer!

The bloodshed seems inevitable. We need not take hostages when we fight and destroy these siamese. Kill'em and burn the corpses. No captives taken. Just destroy'em.

10:44,
Again! You've just displayed your lacks of history. Let me make it brief for you. During the Pol Pot era.... for you, that meant 1975-1979. The reasons that Khmer wasn't residing around Preah Vihear is because that was the Khmer rouge stronghold. Pol Pot drove the Khmer peoples away from the temple. That's explained why we haven't been there all along. Here's an extra tips for you: in Cambodia if we left our house for whatever the case may be, we can always come back and reclaim our house. The same as the rest of the world. In the case of Preah Vihear for example, just because nobody lives there doesn't mean that you can moved in and claim it. I hope you can comprehend!

The siem are blind by their military hardware. What a big mistake, they seem to take this very lightly.

We are 10 times worst than Laos, just to give you an idea (violence is in our blood).

Do you understand that siem.
This is no joke.

To 10:44
It prove clearly before day 1 that there is a pagoda, monks etc.. and the need of food/donation is need due to hard situation.., no. of people increases..military, police and all kind of transport of food is closed from Thailand...
and the Real is this area is belong to Cambodia as decided by 1962 HuageICJ and No need to move/force many population to live there before.... the conditions ther is litle bit hard infrastructure is still poor from Khmer side....

3:10? You got to be joking. If you have been there been since day1, we would have some trace of it, but we don't. Do you have it? What you are saying is you people had been depending on people in Issan to survive there. That is a bit like saying Khmer in the US depend on the US goods to survive, and that land is called the USA, not Cambodia.

As for the corrupted ICJ rendering verdict solely on Franco treaty without any French around for thousands of kilometers, forget about it, NO CAN DO.

Hey, Khmer shit! Fuck the UN (UNESCO), ICJ, and your pathetic government.

This is a bilateral high-level talks, and therefore, multilateral parties should not get involved. You signed the agreement, and you understood what entails and stipulates in the agreement.

People there made their living by trading and selling goods with the residences of Sisaket. Now they don't have access to the amenities.

We should make the 4.6 square kilometer of land a no man's land, it would benefits both RESIDENCES AT THE BORDER. Make it into a trading post, one side guard by the Khmer and one side guard by the Thais, the middle is NO MAN'S LAND. As for Preah Vihear, no negotiation--it's belong to Cambodia. That's the only solution I can think of...Anybody have any bright ideas? War is not a solution

Anonymous said...

Yes, but No Man land often doesn't get much attention and often just go to waste. Would take care of land that doesn't belong to you? Why not go 50/50 or Joint development.

My god so this how the Hun Sen CPP government run the country..."DONATION" this soldiers should be well look after/trained daily from the beginning. Not wait until situation arised and try and take advantage out of it.
This also applied to the stupid Royal family. How is your donations equip them in the long term?
Will you still be donating when this issue SUBSIDE after the election....and those soldier will again be forgotten. Like they did During LN,KR,Viet Invation, 1997 Hun Sen Coupe....
Hun Sen/CPP would give a RAT about the Preah Vihear boarder issue. As Hun Sen have/ALREADY SOLD them off to the THAI for BIG BIG $$$$$$$$$$. It become an issue when the general public start to scrutines where exactly the boarder line.
Also please check where the boarder line is after Hun Sen & Vietnam treaties.?

I know, 6:09, this Khmer against Khmer has to stop. We have caused enough suffering, lives, and damages to the local. We need to get out of Dark Ages. We need to start a new era in the region, and we need joint development to make up for the locals.

Where is Mr: Hun Sen money? When the crisis come Hun's government have no money to suport troops in conflict area.Do you want this corrupt government continue to lead this anymore?

Anonymous said...
