The current Thai-Cambodian conflict over the Preah Vihear temple is highly sensitive, and everyone must try to prevent it from escalating into an armed conflict.
The last time Thai armed forces were engaged in a border conflict was in 1989, when Thailand and Laos fought a short but bloody war over the village of Ban Romklao. At that time, the army commander-in-chief, who doubled as the supreme commander, exerted his power over the defence and foreign ministers.
The fact that the Foreign Ministry was sidelined during the Ban Romklao conflict should be a lesson for the Samak government and the armed forces. If we are not careful, the Preah Vihear issue could become the next Ban Romklao.
There is a danger now that certain elements in the armed forces might try to dictate to the Foreign Ministry, at a time when its credibility is being undermined by a group of academics who have their own views and positions regarding the Preah Vihear issue.
Compounding the problem is the ongoing power play between supporters of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and those who want to banish him from politics.
Those who removed Thaksin in the Sept 19, 2006 coup are continuing their battle. They have succeeded in unseating Noppadon Pattama - seen as a close ally of Thaksin's - from the Foreign Ministry. Now they are dead-set on destroying the government of Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej.
The protagonists are using all resources at their disposal to destroy each other. The Preah Vihear issue is caught in this dangerous political game.

Preah Vihear belongs to Khmer people in Issan Province. There is nothing for the monkeys in Cambodia to be careful about. Just stay out of the cliff. You got nothing up there to prove that the area belongs to you.

We khmer should not mislead to war by the benefit of our politicians. Getting that Thai mountain doesn't help we live better. It's just for some business and political votes. Why we have to get that Thai mountain while we can trade there. We have the main building, don't we have ability to built up business with it as it used to ? After the poll on Sunday, the PM of Cambodia will declare victory, and then will make his anouncement of joint development with the Thai company. This is a win-win situation for the Cambodian PM and the former and sitting Thai PMs. The ordinary people of Thailand and Cambodia will be a big losers.
We khmer are stuck in history now! Please open our eyes. We are now Cambodia. We have many nationalities inside. We live peacefully. Why do we have to kill people or getting that some sq.km. Thai mountain land. We can't deny that we send troops weeks before them, it also cause this long problem. In my opinion, if we khmer now making a weird history to our khmer. We are now in 2008. However Cambodia is asking for UN to help. This is a very good point and the thai will lose face, because their arguments are baseless: they have too much shit in their eyes to see the historical thruth and the facts.
We hope that HUN Sen after winning the election will not cede any parcel of lands to Thailand to gain peace, but......

How can we make friends with those who invade us, can you give me the reasons? Today Thai say those piece of land belong to them and later they will clame Preah Vihear and Siem Reap and Angkor Wat and so on like you said at this mordern age 2008, they can change the history and things upside down and there is no doubt that they can claim all those things in the future. The truth is everyone knows you people can't live together, fight war, and asked us to help and promised us permanent residency and equal opportunity and everything, and we won the war. Issan province is no longer part of Cambodia. The people here want independent from Cambodia, and those who doesn't went back already. Why can't you get over it. The Khmer in Issan doesn't owed you anything. They have the right to their share of asset in their province as you have in Cambodia. Just pull yourself out of Issan Province. I agree that a small parcel of that land almost meaningless in term of economic benefit to Cambodia. But please open your eyes and read the history and the recent events between Cambodia and Thailand. How many times that this nation insults and invade us? Not only this time, many times. You used to live in US, you can asked our compatriot that use to live in the refugee camp near thailand about their hardship and violation caused by those bastard Thais. Also, have u ever read the Cambodian news that how many Khmers were killed since after the diplomatic between the two countries has been restored since after 1993?
Our Khmer compatriots were killed by fucking thai soldiers for just because they illegally went into Thailand for small job to support their lives. And just a few days before the standoff, you can read the news that 3 other Cambodians are killed by Thai Soldiers for the same issue. Do you think this action is a kind of friendship?
I know that the Cambodian government rarely bring these cases up, because they don't want into any dispute with Thailand because we want a friendly and good neighbore Or maybe the government leadership has business to do with those thai bastards.

I am 6:05PM. I do not see your points related to the topic I have raised.
What I mean is like 8:30PM said that those small parcels of land almost meaningless in term of economic and by not mentioning of Khmer land in the past before 1900 but according to the treaty of France-Siam treaty 1904 & 1907 & map acknowledged by ICJ Hague in 1962, those pieces of land belong to Cambodia. We just want the Thai to respect this international treaty or ICJ decision. Because we do not think contribute this small land more to the Thais will make peace between the two nations seeing such an arrogant nation.
Khmer in Issan province is respected by all of us like Kampuchea Krom peoople since we are all Khmer. If you wish to live under the Thais and feel that doing so is more comfortable, that is your choice but neve forget what 3:02 AM

Everybody loves peaces and we try all the best to avoid it but if it still does not work, we have to fight for the justice. Remember fighting for justice & fighting to get property of other nations are completely different.
