PHNOM PENH, Cambodia -- Cambodia’s UN-assisted tribunal says health conditions of the detained former Khmer Rouge head of state have remained stable despite his recent hospitalisation for a stroke.

The tribunal spokesman Peter Foster said that 77-year-old Khieu Samphan is fit enough to continue staying in detention, despite his recent ill health.

A partial medical report released by the tribunal also said Mr Samphan faces no immediate risk to his health.

Khieu Samphan is one of five former Khmer Rouge senior leaders in detention awaiting trial on charges of crimes against humanity and war crimes.
